People of SZ,

Has anyone got any recommendations for Boston (not the one in Linconshire - Mad Cyril, I'm looking at you here).

It's going to be part of our honeymoon tour and I've got the NYC thread to refer to for that part, so if anyone can give a few ideas it'd be appreciated.

Ta muchly. :)

My parents have been a couple of times Paul, and know people living there, I'll ask them for you when I see them next.

I went to Boston about 3 years ago and it was fantastic. What time of year are you going as we went in March and it was -28 degrees. Plenty of siteseeing to be done with trolley tours etc and be sure to take in an ice hockey game at the Fleetcentre if in season.

End of August mate. Only there 3 days, so I doubt I'll see any ice hockey and I can't see my missus letting me do that anyhow!

Surely this place is a must Paul

I've been, but in 1995 when I was 10......

The adults of the day seemed to enjoy it though and they talk fondly about it nowadays. I do remember going past the outside of the Cheers bar though and yes that is a must. ;)

I went about 6 or 7 years ago, like yourself only for a few days. Nice city but it will have changed massively in that time due to the Big Dig which has put road tunnels just about all over the place to relieve congestion. Getting a look at the city in one of those amphibious vehicles was kind of fun, so I'd say the Duck Tour is worth a look, especially as you've not got long. They're often driven by mad loons but it'll give you a good look at the major sights over a couple of hours and help you decide what you want to see in a bit more detail.

I was there 19 months ago, and a visit to Cheers is a must. Food quality not fantastic, but as long as you dont plan any shehannigans with the missus back at the hotel, go for 'The Norm Burger'. If you finish the entire meal they give you a certificate and you get pride of place on their website. You wont eat again for 24 hours!.

Are you doing New York or Boston first? Either way i would recommend taking the train and save the hassle of getting in/out to JFK or Newark. Only about 3hours with Amtrak IIRC.

The Norm Burger challenge and The Duck tour are both a must. Make sure you go to the origional Cheers in Beacon Street though, not the replica in Faneuil Hall Marketplace.

Spending about 5 days in NYC then I'm hiring a car and driving to Boston, then onto Niagara Falls and back to NYC, just taking a couple of stops in between in Nowheresville (Utica & Binghampton?) so I don't have to drive for 7hrs!
