As most football fans know form and results usually go in cycles. We had a bit of a dodgy start to the campaign, then we had a good run of 17 games (although we all know that should of been 1 or 2 less really), and we are now on a run of 5 without a win.
Tonight's game is an ideal opportunity to start another good run, and with the next 5 fixtures if we start to play well there is no reason we can't put another unbeaten or at least a good run with only the odd defeat in the next 10-12 games
The good news is that we have had a run of 8 or 9 poor performances which must surely be due to turn soon, and luckily 6 of those have been in the cup (Oxford, Swindon, Preston * 2 and Oldham * 2)
So we are still in a great position in the league, and our league form is not that bad. W4 D1 L1 of the last 6
Now the even better news.
Crawley are unbeaten in 14 league and cup games, so there form/luck is due to turn soon, and they are due a bad run, as they had at the start of the season when they lost 3 of 4 league games prior to going on their current good run of form.
Cheltenham have only lost 2 of 14 games (only 1 in the league), so again, they are due a dip in form/luck as they also had prior to going on their good run with a run of only 1 win in 5 league games.
So we are still 2nd, only 3 points off top, and we have (hopefully) got our dodgy spell out the way, whilst the other 2 teams in the top 3 are still due theirs. (Every team has them, even Man Utd or Barcelona)
One of the secrets to success is to maximise the good runs of form (10 games plus) and to minimise the poor runs (3 or 4 games max). Teams at the top do this, and teams at the bottom do the opposite.
We have slightly over-achieved in both aspects with a longer good run, and a slightly longer poor run, but the principle remains the same.
So lets keep out chins up, get behind the team tonight (even if we go behind) and lets hope we can start another good spell of form tonight, and hope the table looks a lot better in 10 games time after Crawley and Cheltenham have had dips in form before we will without fail go on another dodgy spell.
