Went to my first ever AFL (Brisbane v St Kilda) game on Thursday night. Man, that's one wierd sport - spent pretty much the whole match in a state of confusion. However the bar was open, I'd got free tickets and it was the start of a 5 day weekend so it wasn't all bad.

I agree my girlfriend keeps making me watch DVD's of it and her parent's keep sending me west coast eagles bits and pieces. Still think it is a rubbish sport. If they are actually catch the ball it is best thing ever apparently. Seems to me they spend most of the time just slapping it away from them.

I went to a couple of Crows games when I was last in Oz a few years back, I hadn't the foggiest idea what was going on then, and watching some of the AFL programmes that are shown here I still haven't. Aussie No Rules is probably more appropriate, but a great sociable day out rounded off with what Australians call beer.
