AZ Alkmaar's Europa League game was abandoned tonight due to a small fire at the stadium. Interesting that the remainder of the match is to be played tomorrow at 11am.

I still feel that a similar rule should be brought in for League matches here. We all know about our game at Aldershot last season & look at Doncaster 3-1 up at Charlton and the whole match has to be replayed. OK there could be problems with getting the same players available if there is a gap between the abandoned game and the part of the game that still needs to be completed but surely it is a fair way of deciding the match.

I believe they apply this rule in the Dutch and German leagues too. Completely the right thing to do, on the basis that say, at least half time has been reached

Think they do it in the Spanish leagues too. Remember Real Madrid were something like 3-0 up with 5 minutes to go before the stadium had to be evacuated for a bomb scare.

On an interesting note, Alkmaar got reduced to 10 men after Henriksen got sent off, and replays showed that he didn't even touch the player and was never a red card.

It was a bit more dramatic than that. It was 1-1 with 2/3 minutes to go when they evacuated the stadium. The game was completed shortly after but not before they sacked their manager (I can't remember who it was in charge - but he must be the only manager to get sacked mid way through a match), and Luxembergo took over. Even though it was only 2/3 minutes, Real Madrid managed to win a penalty that Zinedane converted to win the match 2-1.
