First half we were shocking, in fact worse than shocking. Barrett was getting mugged time and time again and despite protestations from our supporters, I was right in front of it and it was a clear penalty. A lazy move across to the ball and Benson went over. We did however hit the bar and then the post from a Barrett header but we never really got into the motions, not helped by a bobbly pitch. IMHO, Hammell was probably the pick of the bunch in the first half.

Second half and well, what a difference. Whether Tilly gave them a rollicking who knows but we were much improved despite several changes.

The first goal came from shall we say a debatable pass back decision and Freddy smacked home from 10 yards with the aid of a deflection. Then, we turned on the style with some slick passing movements ripping Dagenham to shreds. Lawson was involved in most of the good work and he finished off two moves with two nice finishes. Gutts then got in on the act with a carbon copy of Lawson's two, thanks to being set up by Hooper's great, unselfish knock back, before another break away was finished off by Hooper himself. His header was blocked, but he had the talent and presence of mind to acrobatically swivel and finish with an overhead kick from 2 yards.

Points:

Francis - Superb again. Deceptively quick and once again showed his class. Purchase of the summer so far.

Hammell - Very good defensively in the first half although didn't take what would be the in swinging corners for some reason? Wasn't afraid to get stuck in.

Barrett - Needs to improve if he is going to cope in the Championship.

Lawson - Is really starting to show promise and I wouldn't mind seeing him start next Saturday if we don't get anyone in.

Hooper - Sign him up, Tilly. The boy clearly has a lot of potential. I know we played a Conference side etc, but it is there for all to see that he's got ability. Has a surprising amount of strength as well. Give him a year or 2 and we could have a real sort after talent on our hands.
