We sold Tom Hopper to Lincoln - where he's doing very well and scoring in the L1 play-offs - and as part of a weird club statement explaining his sale, it was claimed

The Club is already in discussions to reinforce the squad and which includes a striker with a view to strengthening the first team, not simply for the current season but next year too."(sic)

Obviously that move never happened as we remained under embargo for **checks notes** a further 11 months and changed managers a couple of times but does anyone know which striker we were chasing back then that was going to headline our 2020-2021 season?

We ended up signing Akinola in December and were then in for Akinde from the Gills in January which didn't happen. Rhys Murphy is the only other striker we've been linked with since.
