Hoping there may be a few people on here able to give some advice.

I'm heading off to Barcelona late-June for 3 nights with the missus (10th wedding anniversary - kids staying at home!) and have booked some cheapish flights handily enough from Southend Airport, leaving Thursday morning and returning Sunday evening.

Can anyone recommend any hotels, areas to stay, places to avoid, sightseeing tips etc... Obviously the Nou Camp is somewhere i fancy going to.

Don't particularly want to feel like we're rushing around from one sight to another and would quite like to take the opportunity to relax without having to rush around after the kids!

Any tips well appreciated.

You tube is your friend, funnily enough its very helpful with ideas and ways to save time when visiting a place, for example when we went to the lourve my wife found the quickest way in on you tube.
Failing that get some old persons clothes and werthers and stay round barmas.

yeah there is a few threads about Barca on here. It's a great place, you'll have a brilliant time. We stayed in an apartment, so can't help with hotels. The open top bus is great for getting about.

Pubey's right about the open top bus.Another good tip is to take the bus from the Airport terminal(turn left when you exit)to the town centre.PM me nearer the time if you like for other info.
Fortunately there won't be any football at the Nou Camp in June though their museum thingy will be open.Looking forward to getting a direct flight over to Southend in May to see our last home game.
ps Tone what's a "werthers?"

So many people taking advantage of the cheap flights from Southend to Barca that i know of. Makes those people at SAEN look a bit stupid saying people wouldnt want to use the airport!

I'm off there 18-20 april, so will also take any tips that come along!

werthers are rent boys who help service old men - as in "werther shag".

Olympic Marina for fish dinner one evening. A few bars/clubs there if you are feeling young. Oh and also a casino next door by the Arts Hotel. Worth looking to see whether Arts has any weekend specials. It's 5 star luxury, with showers ive not seen elsewhere and everthing done at the touch of a button Rammed in the week for business but less so at weekends. Pricey, very pricey, but worth every penny if you have an excuse to splash out.

La Rambla is lovely for shops and dining (though watch out for pickpockets), the beach is surprisingly nice for a 'city beach', the tour and museum at the Nou Camp is brilliant both for the football and for the historical socio-political rivalry between Barça and Real (see the bits about Franco bribing players who were about to sign for Barça to sign for Real instead), Montjuïc Park is gorgeous (think the old Olympic stadium is up there but never got to see it), as is the cable car ride across the Marina to get up there.

Certainly agree with the above about Montjuic Park, Olympic Stadium is there along with the diving arena used for the Olympics. Some really great views of the city from up there.

Watch out for pickpockets, especially when purchasing travel tickets from vending machines in any station and also the cable car stations.
