This battle is the an interesting tiff between the 1970's psychological horror of Kubrick's The Shining (Mr B) vs a 21st century bit of torture "porn" in the shape of Hostel (SUFCLiam).

I know which way my vote is going but don't let my exquisite taste sway your decision!

Don't know the other one, but would have thought The Shining was a strong contender anyway.

the shining - only cos you get to see some wrinkly gash

hostel is still a good film though

I feel strange to do this but I voted for Hostel. I am a big lover of horror films and own a great number of them. I normally prefer the old style horror films from the 70's and 80's (This is where the golden oldies may suffer as folk on here may not have seen them) but the Shinning has never really done it for me. To be honest I think it is one of the most overrated films of its type so although I wouldn't say Hostel is a classic I am voting for that.

Did you see the TV movie of The Shining? It stuck far closer to the book that Kubrick's version.

To bet honest I left it well alone as well as the book.Ok it sticks closer to the book but is the film itself better / much different?

I may give it a go if so..Ta

It's quite different. Stephen King was quite narked at Kubrick's version due to the portrayal of Jack Nickleson's character - however the film has an iconic scene..... that doesn't actually figure in the book at all!

Naughty Naughty! If your Dad knew you had seen that film I am sure he would not be best pleased ;) No doubt you will agree with my post though.

the funny thing is he asked me for a horror film and i'd watched it the night before so said hostel. i didn't realise he was using it for this otherwise i would have given him a much better example.

against the shining hostel should get battered but i do like hostel and agree with some of southenederstruefaith comments on the shining. had to vote hostel through family loyalty.

This was never likely to be much of a contest was it! Shining all the way for me too

Cool, wasn't around yesterday so missed all this! Was concerned some of the younger generation may not have seen The Shining.
