Ah, Scott Forbes. A legend, a non-league gem and one of Alan Little's few decent signings.

Scott Forbes had given up on ever playing professional football and was plying his trade on the Essex non-league scene before he signed for Southend. His aspirations had to change and he had a move to America to begin a coaching career planned. He had been a Southend fan as a youngster, having grown up in Canewdon, and stood on the North Bank to watch the Blues play. He was ecstatic when the club became interested in signing him, and having hired no agent to deal with negotiations, rumour has it that he hopped on the train to Southend to sign his deal by himself. A rare and wonderful example of a player doing it for his love of the game. Scott also pressed ahead with signing for Southend, despite a reasonably successful trial with QPR around the same time, as well as a late approach by West Ham.

Scott made his Southend debut against Brighton and Hove Albion at home on the first day of the season, coming on for the last 15 minutes and terrorising Brighton's defence in that short space of time. Over the course of the season, Scott's work-rate, heart, endeavor and all-action displays made him a crowd favourite at Roots Hall - and who forget that goal against Canvey Island in front of 11,000 in the FA Cup?

Unfortunately, Scott's progress at Southend was hampered by a succession of recurring hamstring and ankle injuries at the beginning of the 2001/2002 season. He never got to show new Blues boss Rob Newman what he could do and arguably was not the same player once he returned from injury anyway. A promising career in league football was ruined, and Scott retreated back into the wilderness of Essex non-league football.

Scott is an SUFC cult hero and deserves your votes in this competition.

VOTE SCOTT FORBES!

Daryl Flahavan was a true servant of the club. He was a fantastic instinctive keeper that kept us in tens of games throughout his stay and would surely have achieved a higher level if he had a few more inches to him. His pinnacle has to be the thwarting of Ronaldo in the Man U victory, but in truth he had countless performances of this calibre. On several occasions he turned what could have been a loss into a win - I particularly remember two penalty saves away at Crewe. He loved banter with the fans and truly hated Col Ewe so deserves to win based on his performaces and his cult-hero status.

Spencer Prior (Moody Blues) and Darryl Flahavan (Monkwell) progress to the next round
