Best 3 albums of the year

Ron Manager

Guest
1 -The Libertines/The Libertines
2 - Kasabian/Kasabian
3 - Hot Fuss/The Killers

I suppose Smile by Brian Wilson technically was a release for this year, but was made years ago so I've made it ineligible for this poll.

Anyone else?

Oooh.. toughy...

1) Green Day - American Idiot (real return to form!)
2) Velvet Revolver - Contraband
3) Snow Patrol - Final Straw

I'd go along with Kasabian, very good debut... Ones that didnt make it:-

The Killers - Hot Fuss, Kasabian - Kasabian, Incubus - A Crow Left..., GLC and I really enjoyed the Prodigy's Always Outnumbered...

All in all, decent year for tunes...

(oh, quick plug for the Pearl Jam Greatest Hits CD... possibly the best collection of songs ever released?!)

Snow Patrol - Final Straw
Libertines - Libertines
The Music - Welcome to the North

I also liked The Rasmus' - Dead Letters and No Doubt's Greatest Hits albums too.

Bunch of grunge-by-numbers chancers who only had a career outside of dingy Seattle rock clubs because of Nirvana. Pearl Jam were to Nirvana what someone like Freddy And The Dreamers were to The Beatles.

But hey, it's all about opinions right?

Oooo.... thats pretty harsh RM! There certainly were some 'grunge-by-numbers' bands that jumped on the bandwagon (as brilliant as they are, Stone Temple Pilots for one).

Pearl Jam pretty much formed the grunge scene - the band having roots in the Seattle scene long before Nirvana crashed onto the music scene with their more radio-friendly release. Nirvana roots were more based in Punk and Metal and when they released "Teen Spirit" people started to look at the Seattle scene more closely and tagged every band from that time as "Grunge".

To be honest, I dont know if Grunge really exists as a sound - if it did, it was only for a short time. After there first two albums, Pearl Jam are very much Rock, as much as Nirvana are more punk, Soundgarden becoming more metal and Foo Fighters just radio friendly rock...

You might guess its something I have a bit of a passion in!

The Streets, A grand don't come for free.
Red hot Chilli Peppers Live at Hyde Park, probs because I went.
Sorry but,
McFly, Room on the 3rd floor

If we were having a poll for the most disappointing album of the year, the Streets would top it... shocking compared to "..Pirate Material"

No way! In fact, can't believe I forgot about it. Probably because I've played it so much that it feels like it's been around for years. So, revised list - Killers down to number 4, Kasabian to 3 and The Streets in at 2.

A fantastic album, different to the first but the work of a genius none the less!

The only albums I can remember buying this year are Best of RHCP and the Prodigy album. I'm struggling to make a top 3.

Just scrolling through iTunes, there have been a good few releases this year. Honorary mentions go to Dizee Rascal, The Hives, Joss Stone, Kings Of Leon, The Ordinary Boys, Polyphonic Spree and The Zutons.

Quite a good year all round!

Top choice of course, I got round to getting the complete works of The Clash this year - filling what was a rather large gap in my collection!

Married life doesn't have to mean giving up on buying new music Lee. honest!

He! He! - Me too, the best way to view the years releases!

So pleased I got an iPod, I mean, I've always loved music and listening/playing it - but since I've had the iPod I listen to music all day long and it only goes off for sleeping or when I'm watching Little Britain/My Life.../Pax and Paddy!

Oh the joy of single life (I hate it!)

Razorlight, Kings of Leon, Libertines.

Top - Emotion Lotion
Northside - Chicken Rhythm
Cresta - The hollow men.

In no particular order:

The Killers - Hot Fuss
The Zutons - Who Killed The Zutons?
Snow Patrol - Final Straw.

Also, was Kayne West's College Dropout album released this year? I brought it a couple of weeks ago and thought it was class. If it was released this year, it can count itself unlucky to have miss out. Also, honourable mentions must go to Keane, Razorlight (I'm d/l it at the moment and its class), Jamie Cullum, Starsailor.

Graham Coxon - Happiness In Magazines
Morrissey, you are the quarry
The Killers - Hot Fuss

When was Lost Prophets 'Start Something' released?! That's my favourite from 2004, if so ...

McFly? Si, be ashamed! If i find out your bird likes them, i'm gunna make my own quiz team ...
