What city has produced the greatest English bands & artists. I love The Beatles, but for me it has to be Manchester - The Smiths, Roses, Happy Mondays, New Order....etc etc.

Thoughts?
 
Where's Sheffield you absolute bumhole?!

(and don't say south of Leeds).
 
Personally I agree that Manchester is the stand-out choice. But Glasgow and Sheffield are strong cities too.

I remember seeing Arctic Monkey's at Chinnery's when i was about 16, Look at the boys now, about to smash Fins P in a few weeks time.

Iron Maiden are from East London, Steve Harris and Paul D'ianno are from West Ham. McBrain, Smith and Murray from Clapton/Hackney
