For me it's Bob Dylan.
Second - Lennon/McCartney
Third - Jagger/Richards

What's yours?

Why are people referring to Lennon and McCartney as one person .. yes they published their songs together as per a very early agreement they signed but they collaborated on very few songs with Paul turning out the cheery poppy songs like Piggies and Hey Jude while John penned the darker and edgier stuff like Babys In Black and Help!

if it's "ever", then surely the likes of Puccini, Wagner, Verdi, and Mozart have to be considered? Not to mention the likes of Jack Judge (Long way to Tipperary), and Noel Coward?

I'm going for a bit of a modern day one here,

John Mayer

I have to say it's a matter of opinion, but anything that puts the hairs on the back of your neck up to be honest.

John Mayer
The Eagles
Band of Horses (Probably haven't heard of them, not that well known been on Jools Holland a few times)
Luke Pritchard (The Kooks) - bit of a weird one for some people I'd say but some of the stuff they have written is honestly brilliant.

So many ones have been mentioned already Lennon/McCartney, Neil Young, Stevie Wonder, Hendrix.

Ray Charles the list honestly goes on forever!
