Best Southend XI ever - Right Back

Austin was the best I've seen, followed by Lewis Hunt.

Worse probably one of Andy Harris, Keith Dublin (his versatility made him crap in a number of positions) and Mark Hone who made you grateful for a Mark Beard, Julian Hails or Andy Dixon. That's a rather depressing thought.

Before my time, but Mickey Stead (if he was a right-back) and maybe also Dave Robinson and Sandy Anderson might be worth mentions. I thought Moody was predominantly a centre-half?

I'll take Lewis Hunt as your nomination then shall I?

Nah, don't worry. If Stead was our right-back during our 1980-81 title winning season I might nominate him, but as currently my vote will go to Austin I'm not too fussed about nominating anyone.

If we're including loanees, Stephen Kelly was class and I thought Gary Parkinson was fairly solid.

Alan Moody, fbm? According to my memory, he was a centre back - unless he adapted. Loved Juppy, but would have thought this will be a walkover for Austin.....maybe Dave Worthington is worth a shout though.

Indeed he was. Good call for Tony Bentley, but I would nominate another from our first title winning side - Mickey Stead. Signed from Spurs in 1978 and left the club in 1985 and during that time played over 350 games for the club which easily puts him in the all time top 10 for appearances.

He was a centre back as well but I seem to recall him playing as a right back for a couple of seasons when we had Neil Townsend and Brian Albeson as our central pair.

In my time watching the Blues (23 years) no-one can even hold a candle to Dean Austin. Total class from start to finish. Great defender, great going forward - This postion is over for my mind.
