We've had some great seasons and not-so-great seasons. In every season though we have had one game, or one player who has made it worthwhile.

So, let's list the best things to happen per season. Promotions/title obviously beat everything else.

I'll start

1906/7
1907/8
.
1949/50 - highest average attendance
1955/6 highest league crowd (v Orient)
1968/9 - record win v Brentford 10-1
1971/2 - Promoted to Division 3
1977/8 - Promoted to Division 3
1978/9 - highest attendance v Liverpool
1980/1 Division 4 title
1989/90- Promoted to Division 3
1990/1 Promoted to First Division
1991/2 Top of Division for 3 hours
2003/4 - Got to first cup final at Millennium Stadium
2004/5 - Promoted via Play-offs
2005/6 - League One winners
2006/7 - Beat Man Utd in Carling Cup
2009/10 - Drew v Chelsea at Stamford Bridge
2010/1 -
2011/2 -
2012/3 - Reached Wembley for first time since 1930

IIRC, didn't we also score more goals than any other team in the FA Cup that season?
Courtesy of that 10-1 and a 9-0 in the next round vs Kings Lynn, finally went out in the 4th Round having scored 23 goals.

Apart from the 10 and the 9 we also scored two 6's, a 5, four 4's, and only had nine goalless tallies all season. Billy Best (31 goals), Gary Moore, Chico Hamilton in their pomp; happy days.... I was 12 years old and loving it. :smiles:

1998/99 losing 1-0 at home to Hull to get Alvin Martin the sack, one of my happiest moments as a Southend fan

Maybe Wiggy could just have a point as it makes no sense to me that losing a home game and a manager being sacked
(albeit I was not his greatest fan either) can be one of your happiest moments ?

Hearing he'd been sacked was like Jimmy Glass scoring that goal to keep Carlisle up.

1979-80 was also the first time we beat top flight opposition - a 2-1 win v Bolton at Burnden Park in the League Cup

Got to be 4th Division Title for me - awesome season. Unbeaten at home all season (if we forget the embarrassing 0-1 home defeat to then bottom of the table Hereford in FA cup first round!). So many club records broken that year too. I think we only conceded about 4 or 5 goals at home all season. Did the double over Halifax 5-1 home and away. Mervyn Cawston's long run without letting a goal in. Great manager in Dave Smith - nice guy too.

All in all my best season for the Blues!

Fair point, but the preceding couple of hours were so irredeemably awful, I'm not sure that game could be classed as a season highlight even if the postscript was very welcome.

Very thin gruel in 98/99 mind. A 1-0 defeat at Highfield Road in the League Cup wasn't bad given that Coventry were relatively strong back then. Shame we got gubbed 4-0 in the home leg.

I enjoyed the 3-0 win at Plymouth - £5 on the Trust coach!
