Could and should have played at a much higher level than he did. Sad that his "disciplinary" problems prevented that from ever happening. Still to this day one of the most exciting players I've ever seen in a Southend shirt however.
There used to be a physiatrist (?} on the zone who was terminally I’ll and ( maybe because of that?) wrote more on here about Bilel than maybe he should. In short he explained how it was impossible for him to change whilst employed as a professional footballer and anyone who expected “change” would be massively disappointed

The bloke was a star entertainer at the Chris Barker game, he stayed behind after, selfies, photos, hugs, chats, nothing was an effort for this super bloke.
There was genuine warmth from him to the fans and his old team chums.
Always been a top fella and I’ll still stand by and say his been my favourite Southend player of all time.

Absolute legend that man. Got two signed photos of him today thanks to someone selling them next to the Far Post Bar!

Still never worked out his best position! When he kept his head (which was 50/50) he could play in any position. Crazy and brilliant at the same time.
