Ok Shrimperzonians, have a small query...

Yesterday I had an electrical fault at home that I had to rectify and when open up the junction box it was full of a tarry, black gunk. Now I've noticed this stuff in the cellar on the central heating pipes and (strangely) underneath the bath. Now I reckon this gunk has eaten into the insulation of the cable to cause the short that burnt it out.

Now I'm just wondering what the gunk could be? Some sort of sealant when the cellar was waterproofed or could it be something a bit more sinister?

Or could it be I'm sitting on some crude oil and it won't be long before the US invades my front room?

Any guidance will be rewarded with some green.

Ta.

Strangely enough I saw a similar problem many years ago in a Conservatory out in the sticks....it turned out to be Slugs and after a time the mess does build up into a sticky black mess....the fact you have it in three different places, two of which possibly could be damp areas, sounds like it can't be just a coincidence...perhaps you have a family of them.

This is probably not the answer but worth a thought.

Hmmmm, as random as that sounds you might have a point. My garden is full of slugs and snails.

How bizarre!

Careful MK, this sounds all too convenient to me...
Slugs???
That's what they want you to think...
Have you seen Spiderman with that black slimy stuff ?
It's probably one of those. You know, an alien or some sh*t.

Hope this helps.

I'll be at the Hereford game in a shiny black suit, stealing hot dogs from small children and abusing our players. Evil MK......mwah ha ha ha!

Of course the best solution for not having snails of slugs about is to get hold of a 1970's Pink Kipper Tie...I have one in my wardrobe and have never seen either in there.
