Black panthers living in the wild

I recall that some 20 years ago there used to be reports of black panther like cats being sighted in the woods out the back of Rochford.

Whether it was real or just someone wanting to wind the OB up, I never knew.

A couple of years ago, when the missus and I were on hols near the Pyrenées, she thought she saw a similar beast as we drove a round a remote area. I didn't see it and wondered if she was right or needed a new pair of specs.

Anyway while I was watching the TDF on Saturday this was brought back to my mind when the helicopter shots picked up a big black cat walking from the edge of the forest.

Yogi has already mentioned the Pyrenées bears on another thread but I was wondering if they are the only wildlife roaming those parts

I lived in Rochford from 1977 - 1997 and never heard of any panther sightings.

Bear in mind that I was one of the faces down the Victory and a King Edmund Scool prefect so if they were about I would have heard about it.

Indeed it's true. I live in Rochford, and just this morning I spotted Tommie Smith in the Spar.
