Gordon Brown gives a full apology for the shocking treatment of Alan Turing who helped save thousands of lives in WW2 by helping crack the Enigma codes at Bletchley. It's reported the folks at Bletchley Park helped bring the war in Europe to a swifter conclusion.

Alan Turing was treated terribly by the country he served but what does a Gordon Brown apology actually achieve?

I suspect this is a case of GB trying to score a few points rather than any genuine remorse.

Agreed.. Shame he cant be arsed to turn up to a few funerals to apologise to some soldiers families.. Turing would probably gob on a politician like Brown

True, but for once lets think he's not using it as a PR stunt.

Hes always using it as a PR stunt, nice of him to take a break from talking to Simon Cowell about Susan Boyle though.

Agreed. The treatment received for this man is inexcusable; but it happened 60+ years ago. What does an apology from a man do, especially when no one believes a ward the scottish **** says!!

Trouble is Paul it's almost certainly spin. Bear in mind our fearless PM can send sympathy to Susan Boyle and congratulate England on winning the Ashes, but as ever was conspicuous by his absence when the Al Megrahi affair was raging.

Have the entire Government committed mass suicide??? That would certainly be the right thing for them to do!

Seriously though what was done to Turing was dreadful but I can't for the life of me see why the one eyed gurning freak is apologising for an act committed sixty years ago. Especially as he's incapable of apologising for the collosal damage he's wreaked on the UK economy, not to mention the U turn on the EU referendum, selling the gold reserves at rock bottom, porous borders, illegal war, unwinnable war, spin and smears, etc etc etc

Susan Boyle, Turing, X factor and sending his wife to the gay pride match in London are about all Brown is fit to comment on. The fat useless **** makes even John Major look good!

Just to dig this up, I watched a program today from BBC4 regarding chaos theory and how we got here.

Basically Turing developed a mathematical formula that showed how individual cells group together to form our different constiuent parts which was wildly radical at the time and dismissed. It was published in the year he committed suicide.

This formula let towards Benoit Mandlebrot creating a very simple formula that showed how rivers, leaves, trees etc are all formed in nature and increased our understanding of evolution.

Fascinating stuff - Turing died aged 42, who knows what he could have achieved if he'd lived.
