Anybody know how the war is going?

for you people who don't know what I am talking about the DVD scene is now at war over new formats so is VHS vs Beta Max all over again!

Nothing's clear yet, but there have been supposed picture quality issues with the first releases of Blu-Ray. These are supposedly being fixed but obviously not a good sign for Sony. Also, with the strong challenge from Nintendo's Wii and an expected high price tag, the PS3 (which includes a Blu-Ray drive) isn't looking as likely to give Sony their expected boost in sales of their new technology.

HD-DVD has 30Gb capacity compared to Blu-Ray's 50Gb, but will likely be cheaper because it is been developed from existing DVD technology, so production costs are only likely to increase slightly. Blu-Ray players will cost about £600. HD-DVD players will cost half that.

It's looking increasingly likely that the two formats will force a stalemate, with netiher side coming out on top. One of the main problems is ineveitably going to be consumer willingness. I'm not going to replace my DVD library at £20(?) per film, is it likely that many other people are going to?

I suspect whatever version it is easier to make moody copies of films etc. will come out on top.

And as for 8 tracks , nuff said........
I guess you mean the LP sized laser discs.

Sometimes it is not the one that is the better quality that wins but the one which is taken up by the cheaper Asian manufacturers who will hit the mass market at reduced prices so take up will be quicker and this will make Hollywood set this format as the de-facto standard to re-produce films on. After all they want to sell their films to the biggest audience.

Actually, it is the one the porn companies favour.

Porn has revolutionised e-commerce, won the VHS/Betamax war and lots more.

Whatever they go for will win this war.

So far, Hollywood is divided.

And you would know all about that with the reported collection that you have accumulated.
