TBV in the West or North

Now my view on this, is i would like to stay in the North Bank.

My reasons for this is, you can sit or stand where you want to, i like the idea of that, not having to worry about where your seat number is and being stuckthere, being able to get there just before kick off and buying your tickets and walking in and standing where you want, so long as the seat is empty.

The north bank to me has a far better acoustic level, the more people who attend in there the better the vocals will be.

Now over the past 23 years i have sat all over the ground, i spent 3 seasons inthe blue seats in the east stand towards the back.

I believe that the east has a better vocal support than that of the west (minusthe blue voice).

If the supporterswere to be repositioned in the North bank nearer to the east stand, then ithink that the east stand vocal support would link in, and join up with theNorth bank support, making for a real good acoustic sound. We could even trythe banter back and forth between the east and North stands.

I also think that you will get more home supporters moving more into the east blue seats, those that like the north atmosphere but would like the comfort of sitting down in the east blue seats.

Also i thought that us moving to the other end of the North was so that we could get our fans behind the goal, so that the away supporters could not putof our keeper, so giving us the advantage behind the goal.

So for me it is STAY IN THE NORTH BANK all the way, but for us to move behind the goal and moving closer / linking up with the east.
Now that would be bloody fantastic, i would really really look forward to that.

''TBV should be in The North Stand ''

Ok I was not at the game on Saturday I sure the atmosphere was good but going on from the past if you are in the west stand the singing sounds really loud but due to the doubled barreled roof sadly the noise made stays in the west stand ...

People in the South Upper and East Stand see a lot of clapping and jumping around but no noise is generated onto the pitch

North Bank for me you just need the numbers to get rocking and partying :-)

The acoustics from the North stand arent great either, it always sounds far louder there than what comes out, I rarely hear anything from TBV when there are in there. At least TBV in the west stand the noise at least benefits a whole stand even if acoustics mean it doesnt travel well to the rest of the ground.

Noise was great on saturday but how often will block W be that full. There was hardly a free space, and the fact that the rest of the West was busy meant the noise really got going. But on a cold tuesday night where its a third full will it be the same in terms of noise?
As has been mentioned, the North often reverts to slagging off the away fans or the oppositions goalie (that 'youre sh*t aaahhh' is particularly annoying I find!). Saturday all the songs were about backing the team and players (even Straker got some backing for once) and I dont think its any surprise we won. It must be said also the Plymouth fans were very quiet.
Overall I prefer block W as I get a better view plus I feel its less a slanging match with the away fans and more about backing the team. It concentrates the fans better as well being a narrower section than the North and encourages the rest of the West stand to join in.
Much does depend on the overall attendance in the ground. I guess if the team are doing well the fans will come and the atmosphere will be better than some of the dross we had to put up with last season.

Agree with this.

Most people have hit the nail on the head really on this. Lets see what the noise levels are like tomorrow, assuming we are in West again? With probably decreased numbers, lets just see how loud we really are.

Only East Stand open at the moment for Yeovil match.

My thoughts are similar to Ramsdenblues, but then the segregation issue comes in, policing / stewarding additional costs.

If only the North Bank juveniles would focus on the team, and not trying to excel themselves in the d*ckhead stakes...then there wouldn't be an issue.

That said, I think it inspires the team with "our" supporters behind both goals.

Walking to the ground before kickoff (going in via the East entrance), the chanting could be heard loud and clear. I honestly thought it was the Argyle fans chanting in the North until I heard Southend.

At times it was very loud in the West, so well done on that. Need to keep it up though!

It’s got to be the North.
As we know sound doesn’t travel in Roots Hall, if you’re in the West it sound great to us but can hardly be heard in the North of vice versa. We don’t want the team put off by a few noisy away fans behind one goal when our own efforts can hardly be heard.

If we are both in the North Bank you are on level pegging and the atmosphere can be electric.

1,000 away fans is one thing but If there are only 300 away fans at the far end of the North the atmosphere is poor. We’ve come a long way to getting back in the north, don’t give up on it now.

100% agree.

The real test comes on a Tues night mid January.

That's okay - our nearest Tuesday matches to mid January are late March and late October (unless we get lucky in the Cups)

But you can do that in W block as the club do not allocate it

Northampton are predicted to bring down 800 or so, that means that we wont have the North anyway so THAT game will be a gauge on things

I found this and thought it was relevant due to the point about chanting at away fans.
This is from saturdays game.

Yes but that was after the game

I don't mind moving every so often, but prefer the North. My mate from Uni sat in the north as away fan and said it was really loud, even though THEY won! The video proves that away fans are going to give it large wherever we are...

I was hugely pleased when we got the north bank back but its not the same north bank that we used to have and is now occupied by under 16's. I havent got a problem with that but its not for me. Numbers have dwindled and its much nicer that noise is next to other fans as its enfectious.

TBV is supposed to get behind the team and the best way to do that is to get the rest of the ground going.

Everyone keeps saying "the atmosphere was great on Saturday", and it was, for us in the West Stand. But I have had loads of Plymouth fans telling me our support was rubbish because to them we were silent. I'm all for fans being together, but the acoustics are simply awful in the West Stand, and it isn't right to judge it based on one upbeat game with a 7,000 crowd which would have had a great atmosphere anywhere.

Yet you move TBV to the North bank and the rest of the ground cant hear them from there either as its just as bad.

I never hear TBV when they are in the North Bank.

So what is the point of TBV? To make noise the opposition can hear or to encourage other supporters in the ground to sing?

Having a better atmosphere in the West Stand certainly encourages the latter.

I've always been able to hear TBV (in the North Bank) when I'm in other stands, including the South Stand...

Serious question this one people...

After Saturday there was some really good feedback about being in W block in the west, its a question that has been bugging me all weekend and on this issue I don't know which way to turn do we go back to W Block full time or do we continue to use the North when possible?

I have listed below the pros of each how I see it....

Back in W Block
Pros
  • Fans are closer together
  • Helps galvanise the rest of the West Stand as seen on Saturday
  • Less of a headache for the club
    [*]SAVES the club money
  • Significant reduction in ejections and trouble
  • Permanent home no moving for any match no matter what the size of away following
  • Better match views and facility's IMO

Stay in the North Bank
Pros
  • The acoustics are superb
  • Traditional home of SUFC fans dating back
  • Can be well heard by the rest of the ground
  • Having SUFC shooting towards home fans both halves

Whatever the general consensus is I will speak with the club about, at the end of the day we want whats best for the atmosphere at Roots Hall but at the same time we don't want to be costing the club money for no real gain.

If it saves the club money then for me it's a no brainer.
