We continue.....

Violator - Depeche Mode (Toby Esterhase) v Attack of the Grey Lantern - Mansun (Clinton Baptiste)

Tough one this - love Attack of the Grey Lantern, but I grew up in Bas and Mode were my heroes when I was a wee lad just getting into music in 1981-82. I used to get Martin Gore's autograph every time I saw him in town! Violator for me then, but only just.

Also a Basildonian but never liked the Mode. Violator, though, is a great album and I wouldn't say that about any of their others.

Oooh, this is a tough one, I love tracks from both. Of course, neither is '30 Something', but you can only vote on what's in front of you.

Was sorely tempted to Bart this one, but went in the end for Mansun, purely on the amount of listening time I reckon each of these albums got - very close call though.

Loved Mansun, saw a great, great gig at Brixton back in the day.....however they imploded of course, leaving this little gem. I still whistle "The Chad Who Loved Me" from time to time.

Violator is also immense, however one of the worst gigs I ever attended was by DM at Wembley Arena.

Mansun were one of the first bands I ever saw live - possibly the first - albeit by default as they were supporting Suede, who I actually was there to see.

That said, I was never really a fan and in terms of the other option here, Personal Jesus is enough to win the tie single handed.

I loved 'Attack of the Grey Lantern', but I don't feel it's passed the test of time all that well. I must confess that despite being a huge mark for ver Mode, 'Violator' doesn't rank that highly in my list of favourite DM albums, I thought its predecessors, 'Black Celebration' and 'Music for the Masses' were far superior. That said, this is still a superb collection of music, and as Uncle Leo says, if the album was 'Personal Jesus' followed by 40 minutes of fart noises, it would still get my vote.
