Get in there!!! great result, nothing like a last minute goal :)

was a strange game, partly because the views so bad you can tell what the hells going on,

1st half we had two chances scored them both, so did they, some ropey defending from M'voto i must admit, faffing about instead of hoofing it clear etc,

Mildenhall - 6 didnt feel as confident about him today, and got nutmegged for there second, though made a few decent tip overs

Francis - 7 decent game, a few ok crosses and got a 7 for making the switch to CB and looking comfortable

M'voto - 5 Certainly wouldnt want a scrap with this bloke! a couple of ok headers but FWIW was at fault for the goals

Barrett - 7 did his job

Herd - 7 Thought Johnny did well today, no hes not tall, but he was more then capable of playing left back today, and the throw is delapesque

Grant 7 - Solid but unspectacular, attacking play is not his forte

Macca - 6 Poor today by his standards particularly 1st half, wayward passes galore, would have been a 5 but he did put himself about in the usual macca way, we'd miss him if we didnt have him.

Christophe - 7 Good game I thought, linked up well with Moussa

Moussa - 8 genuinely surprised with how good hes turned out, good ball control, eye for a pass, and was a definite threat in a side not flooded with flair!

O'Donovan 7 - didnt see him much tbh but a goals a goal

Barnard 7 - same as o'donovan, but looked hungry for goals

Sankofa - 6 came on and did his bit

Friend - 6 unspectacular but again, wasnt skinned or anything,

Laurent - 8 changed the game, one minute shocking, next great! and took his goal really well,

all in all not a great performance football wise, but plenty of guts and we were lucky to get away with it tbh, but i dont give a toss cos we won!!

best part of the game was clapping the team off , and great to see tilly come right up to the fans and pump his fist in the air and look delighted.

we can and i think will play better then this, so it bodes well for the rest of the season, :support:

Yeah pretty much agree with above. Not a terrible game, but tbh couldn't really see much. How the **** can you call that a football stadium?

Worst view in the Football League!

Barnard's goal looked tasty, and some good build up work.

Their goal, shocking defending.

Couldn't see our second goal, either a rebound or O'Donovan getting on the end of a cross.

Their 2nd goal, Mvoto.. well.....

Midly seemed to have made a good save second half, their keeper likewise. They hit the woodwork twice.

Laurent's goal sumptiously taken.

Atmosphere, shockingly bad.

Would go into more detail, but as others have said, and will say, you can't really guage anything from the vantage point we had.

My son went to the game and gave me pretty much the same report over the phone as Strykr's above. He said M'Voto was very poor and largely at fault for both their goals. Moving Francis into central defence made it more solid but Sankofa and Friend on the flanks were not as good as Francis and Herd had been in the first half. Mildenhall seemed hesitant, especially with crosses. Grant, Christophe and Moussa were sound in midfield but Macca was poor and was fortunate not to get at least a booking for a crude challenge followed by a bit of handbags with a Brighton player, Barnard worked hard up front but my son said he really didn't notice O'Donovan and couldn't see that he was the one who scored our second from where he was in the ground. Laurent's goal was impressive.

It's a second-hand report, so blame my son if you disagree!

Shame McCormack didn't get booked, would be good if he got suspended so Sawyer can finally get in the team. Sounds like Macca was poor again, what does Sawyer have to do? Did the injuries look bad?

Agree with this. Don't think mcCormack is a poor player by any stretch of the imagination, but he is badly off form at the moment and perhaps being dropped will give him the kick up the arse that he needs. It's bad enough having Sawyer on the bench - not bringing him on at all is criminal.

Good game. Sat in the south stand so got a decent view! Thought a draw would've been a fair result, but it was a good performance by the Shrimpers. Thought all the players did a good job. I thought it was odd that Laurent spent HT away from the other players and just kicking a ball to himself(!). Brilliant goal by him though, so it obviously worked.

Got Roy's goal on video -- 4 mins plus of "highlights":

The fact that M'voto had such a stinker in the first-half and was substituted through injury makes me wonder whether he was 100% fit to start with. God knows what we have done at the back today, if we had not had a Friend to call on. Slightly concerned for next week if M'voto and Herd don't recover from their injuries.

Very good cheers, appreciated.

Tilly said in his post match interview that M'voto had an injection earlier in the week for a thigh problem, so there must have been a doubt over his fitness.

First and last visit to the converted athletics stadium, this is not a football ground. Laurents strike made it all worthwhile, but didn't feel part of a game played in a different postcode to the one I was sitting in.

I was sat right in front of you! You can just see my head at 1:24! I was with my Brighton supporting brother-in-law and nephew! I had an inkling there was a Southend fan behind me as I could hear you talking to your colleague about our players!

Just seen the goals in i-Player. Build up to Barney's goal and his header were excellent. Laurent's goal was pure class but the defending for the Brighton goals was woeful.

That was my impression, O'Donovan's was a poacher's. As it goes, I think (needless to say) people are being unfair on Macca, both Grant and Moussa had ineffective games, Mac did at least manage a shot on target (as evidenced in the clip on here) and I did witness two of his harshest critics sat next to and behind me both comment "great pass by Macca" on more than one occasion ;)

Mildy - 6, hard to judge really, but felt he ought to have done better with the goals
Franno - 7, looked better in the middle than at RB, some good runs as usual in 1st half but obviously curtailed in 2nd
M'voto - 5, poor game, had a fitness test pre-match, in hindsight, maybe he shouldn't have been played
Barrett - 8, MotM again, Bazza has now had 3 stonking games in a row - long may it continue
Herd - 6.5, looked ok, but could tell he was injured so not surprised when he went off. Probably going to have to wait a long time again now
Grant - 5, poor, got nutmegged and sold some suckers too, also didn't fool the ref with his antics
Jeff - 7.5, ran Barrett close, thought he had a great game, not majorly obvious but was doing everything in an organised and thorough manner
Macca - 7, was being targetted by Brighton, ref was hopeless at spotting the fouls. Did well in the middle with Jeff and linked well with Barney and O'Donovan
Moussa - 6, very quiet and some repetitive corner deliveries, need to vary it a bit
Barney - 7.5, obviously likes this ground, Lee has improved hugely on last year and I think he enjoyed having someone alongside to take some of the pressure off him
O'Donovan - 7.5, very impressed, reminded me of a young Dougie, not afraid to run at goal with the ball in a very Freddy-esque manner

Subs:
Sankofa for M'voto - 7, did well, got forward too
Friend for Herd - 7, yep, he impressed me too (and not just for stripping off!)
Laurent for O'Donovan - 7.5, absolutely love the guy! He had no right to score that goal from that angle, but he always makes the impossible possible - as an impact sub he is top notch!

Ref - late switch, Roger East - 6, kept things flowing and kept his book clear, though how I don't know. Some bad tackles from Brighton, and honestly felt Macca was going in

Ground was crap! We were actually very quiet, but got going in the 2nd half. Enjoyable day though - good company too.

Macca 7 lol, the most blinkered rating in the history of rating's!
