I believe Glen Speller on BBC Essex mentioned that we enter in the 4th qualifying round.
So if we win that (haha) we go into 1st round proper.

As a non league team don’t we also go into the FA Trophy?

Yes, first round of FA Trophy but that's it. No comps other than NL and FA Cup

The COVID protocols played a big part of returning to pre-season. For the first week (could have been longer, I can’t remember), the players could only meet and train in groups of 5(?), over staggered times.

But essentially you’re bang on, our preparations were abysmal. We chose to come back on that date, whilst some other clubs had been back in training for two weeks by that point.

Add to that, the gym was still locked up, the pitches at B&L weren’t up to standard & we had no friendlies lined up at that point.

And we had 2 competitive games before the first league match IIRC... the League cup match v Gillingham, which gave so many of us false hope. We had 23 shots in that match. 23!

And then the EFL game v West Ham where we had 10 shots.

33 shots in 2 matches. It took 6 games to get past that total.

Back in 1992 when Colchester won the FA Trophy, Conference teams did enter at the first round stage. But these days together with the rest of the National League you will start off in the third round.
