In charge of tomorrow's tricky looking fixture is Richard Clark from South Broomhill in Morpeth, Northumberland.

Morpeth were, of course, the team that deprived Bowers and Pitsea of a Wembley appearance in the FA Vase last year by the narrowest of narrow margins in the two legged semi-final.

Richard Clark missed the first two months of this, his 5th season as a League referee and has just done the 6 games so far with a lowish 15 yellows and no reds.

Throughout his four and a bit years he has only refereed us once and that was his 7th match at this level. It was the 1-0 defeat at Morecambe back in 2012/13 when he sent off one of theirs and both yellows were shown to home players.

I have seen him only once and he was no better, or worse, than okay.

One assistant is Michael D'Aguilar from Stafford, one of the disproportionately low number of black officials on the League list. His last Southend match was again at Bury a couple of years ago. Here's a clip here of Michael D'Aguilar enjoying himself at Wigan a while back.

The other is Gary Hilton from Upholland in Lancashire (who was also on duty at that same Morecambe match).

Fourth Official will be Joseph Johnson, the MD of a large garage franchise in Bootle.
