We lead Bury by some way in head-to-head League matches - 19 wins to their 11 with 13 draws.
We're back to the inexperienced officials this mid-week with tomorrow's match being refereed by Martin Coy of County Durham who takes charge of Southend for the second time in this his first season.
The previous match was just before Christmas - our unimpressive 3-1 defeat at Scunthorpe. I don't think he impressed too many people either. Just the one caution in the game - for Wordsworth.
He signed off from "Conference" football last season with the playoff semi-final between Forest Green and Dagenham and seems to have settled in to League football quietly. His 24 matches so far have produced a remarkably low 49 yellows and a more average 3 reds.
He ran the line in away League matches at Stockport, Leeds, Accrington and more memorably in that disappointing match at Morecambe. He was then "reserve lino" for our playoff match at Wembley. Those of us who were sat behind him at Morecambe a couple of weeks earlier might have been wondering if he was deserving of such an appointment.
He will be assisted by Paul Newhouse from Peterlee, Durham as he was for that match at Scunthorpe, and a Southend debutant Mark Cunliffe from Liverpool who, like the referee, is in his first year at this level. Fourth Official is Mark Heywood, a fully fledged referee from Northwich.
