I have a Ford Escort Finesse (1600 Zetec Engine) which is due for a cam belt replacement.

I can buy the cambelt as I get discount from Ford but what I want to know is how much I should be looking approximately to have someone fit it.

I have had a variety of quotes ranging from £80 up to £200 and have no idea if one is too cheap and if the other is too expensive (if that makes sense)

I'd be grateful for any advice and any recommendations for a good Mechanic...

I had one done recently and paid 80 quid for it to be done. Had it done at a little garage on the London Road in Benfleet - halfway between Kents Hill Road and Tarpots on the left hand side going towards Sadlers Farm.

Can't remeber its name but they did an excellent job.

That's what I am worried about happening - I know mine should be replaced every 60,000 miles and I am over that now...after spending hundreds this year on a new clutch and various other things I don't wanna risk the cam belt snapping!

Just make sure you get it done. The belt itself is very cheap and should cost about £80 to £100 on an Escort.

i think it depends on the engine etc (ie: I think mine is more expensive than a usual Escort as it's a Zetec engine).

You're better off contacting a mechanic - once I decide who's best to fit mine I'll let you know so you can contact them

I am probably going to have a bloke from Absolutely Ford fitting my cambelt - he's charging £80 (will be more if you want him to supply the Cam Belt).

Seems quite reasonable and a decent bloke:
