I have been given A envelope with a post mark on it saying Southend united, 1,000 th home league match .The 24th nov 72

1st does anyone know who we played a is it a collectors item .

Yep a whole year before.... maybe the post office let stamps go on a bit longer.

thanks for the info I have also been given a old picture of the crowed at a southend game . Not to sure what ground .Its not rootshall its either the kursal or the greyhound stadium .It shows a large crowd up against a picket fence maybe the 30s

What you have there is a first day cover.

A friend of mine was bequeathed a lot of these, mainly from the north of England but there were a couple of Southend ones there (the one I saw was the Bristol City game - our first in Division Two as was). They will be stamped on the back to proved authentication. I believe they are collectors items, but have no idea of value.

I wanted to upload a photo of it at the time to get some information, but the file size was too large for SZ to handle.

non of the pictures are like what I have . Reluctant to remove the back to see if its marked anywhere
may ask the club if they can shed some light on it .
