Used to drink regularly at lunchtime when working in London but it just doesn't happen in the US. Not a problem for me as I have given up alcohol completely to be more like our next President.

Is she not allowed to drink whilst on her pneumonia medication?

We always have a bottle of something fizzy on our last day before Christmas hols, and have been known to get an occasional one in from a nearby restaurant beforehand if we're heading in there after work! Not normally during the normal working day though.

When working at the school though, it was a huge no-no. Not even at Christmas lunch, although I know at other schools the teachers used to have a glass of wine with Christmas dinner. No, just umpteen bottles of Schloer.

As a taxi driver its a bit of a no no, although it would help dull the pain with some of the customers we pick up

Quite boring these days, lucky if we get out for a lunchtime beer once a month. As I drive to work if I do go out have to limit myself to a bottle of beer or a shandy :'(

Back in the day, when I first started working in London lunchtime drinking was mandatory, if you weren't in the pub by half 11 you were considered a soft lad. Once had a boss who would sneak out at 10am sometimes, he knew a few of the local landlords due to his heavy drinking and often stayed there til mid afternoon. Funnily enough it all caught up with him and he ended up getting the sack...

Our office had 3 pubs within a 2 minute walk, so the temptation was always there, and the culture in the 90s meant it was acceptable to have a beer during lunch. I'd often meet suppliers, who'd be keen to go out for a curry and a couple of beers - once had 4 curry lunches in one week :dim:

After work on a Thursday or Friday was mental, with everyone chucking money into a whip you were obliged to get hammered, and there was always stronger stuff other than just alcohol on offer in a couple of our locals. On more than one occasion a few of us slept in the pub on a Thursday session and rolled into work the next morning looking like a tramps mate. Sometimes a nice Aussie barmaid would offer a more comfortable alternative than sleeping in the saloon bar...

Times changed, and it all went a bit corporate, meaning you weren't allowed to be seen drinking or accepting meals from suppliers. Everything went ethical and it all got a bit boring. Had 15 good years in London, there was always something happening.

It's all a bit dull now working in an office park in Chelmsford. All this talk of drinking, think I'll see what's in the fridge (still got 3 cans of Red Stripe, nice!)

I used to work in the backwaters of a very well known company that had a terrible drinking culture.

One chap woke up at a table at 7am surrounded by a group still drinking that he had never met in his life.

He still made it in to work as well.

Had a mate who woke up in someone's front garden after a night out on the juice !

Yes, not a problem in my office Monday-Thursday out with clients etc then crack on all afternoon. on a Friday as a team could easily be in the pub by 3pm. My office is very relaxed wth the attitude that if everything is getting done then you can do what you want

Wow man, you can do crack at work!

I work in the public sector and my old boss used to have a Friday lunchtime drinking club, which I would sometimes go to. As a general rule though, I don't ever drink at lunchtime, not necessarily because I'd get in trouble (unless I came back to work trollied, obviously) but because it just sends me to sleep, and it always has - back to when I was but a wee slip of a lad. Also, I don't really eat lunch anyway and am far happier socialising in the evening, so it just doesn't work for me - has always seemed a bit of a pointless exercise.

Now evening drinking, on the other hand.....

I can, but I don't. I would fall asleep at my desk if I had even one pint. I simply can't do it these days.

Not so much at lunchtime (although not frowned upon) but actively encouraged later afternoon, drinks are provided by the company and regular events occur with free booze. My office is literally next to SZ pub favourite The Ship too.

From 1975 to 2012 I worked at locations where alcohol consumption was banned - and a sacking offence. Refineries and power stations are hazardous enough!
