Would be grateful for some advice, please.

My insurance is due up. I currently have protected No Claims Bonus, but had two claims in 2007 (Suicidal Ruminants) so some companies won't offer me a protected NCB. My son is now 17, and wants to get some driving practice in and my current insurers won't touch anyone under 25.

So I need a policy that will keep my NCB, but allow me to put a 17 year old provisional licence holder on for a couple of weeks at a time - can anyone recommend an insurer?

Very hard to find. Short term cover for Yoofs is expensive if you can find it and I think most want a minimum of 6 months.

It might be best to take a long term view and get him his own policy which can be paid monthly- if he has his own car of course. This way he starts building his no claims bonus quicker and it might give him the boost to try and get his test passed quickly, but when he passes, be prepared to pay more, as he will then be allowed out on his own. Sometimes for a small admin fee they might suspend the cover for short periods.

Probably best to go to one of the go compare sites although but if you re both using the same car and your company wont cover him, you will have to change your own insurance as I dont think one car can be insured on two seperate policies.

Have a look at this...

Some good little tricks in there to get the cost down. All legal, unfortunately...

Hope this helps
