Tomorrow's referee is a Select Group referee, but not one who is trusted with any "big" matches. He is Roger East of Salisbury.
He used to be a familiar and distinctive figure to most of us but since his promotion we have seen little of him. In fact nothing since 2012/13 when he refereed our 3-0 defeat at Exeter, 3 yellows for us, one for them and later that season the home goalless draw with Bristol Rovers. Matty Lund's yellow for us was the only card of the game.

The previous season he did both the televised game at Gillingham (2 yellows, Ferdinand and Dickinson, and three points to us) and the disappointing home defeat to Aldershot (booked Timlin, Harris and 3 of theirs).

He made two visits to Roots Hall 2010/11; the first wasn't great on a number of levels. Firstly, we were awful. Secondly he wasn't much better with 6 cautions shared equally between the two teams. We were very lucky to get away with only a 3-1 defeat to Port Vale. His next appearance was the 3-2 home defeat by Chesterfield with 4 cautions - all to them.

Before that, Southend games officiated included Northampton and Yeovil, both away 2007/8, Millwall at home 2008/9 and Brighton away 2009/10.

The other one was Exeter away , also 2009/10, when we lost 1-0 and he sent off Corr whilst he was playing for them. He also sent off Ibehre for us.

The shaven-headed Mr East has shown a somewhat above high 119 yellows and 5 reds from 28 games.

His assistants will be Michael McDonough (no relation) from, yes, Northumberland and Dan Cook the ship building welder from Portsmouth. Dan Robathan from Dorking completes the team as Fourth Official.

Was just about to query the accuracy of these two in same game when 'the penny dropped' ...... I am old and these things take time to filter through ......
