As a game , you like it , its boring , its all about taking down the man your playing by out thinking him , discuss ???

Me i like the game and was pretty decent when i was young , i have also met some right hard nut characters in my time that you'd never thought would be seen dead playing chess and have ended up not only liking it but being pretty damn good at it .

The old fella taught me how to play,Fascinating tactical game which requires decent thought process. The feeling when you know you are on the verge of mate is very nice indeedy.

Love it.

Was my Primary School Champion, and often pop along to Yahoo Games and have a few games on there.

Getting a bit rusty now though....

Haven't played chess in years, used to really like it although i wouldn't claim to be any good. Might have to find someone to play a game with over the holiday season.

Annoys me when people call the pieces horses & castles though - it's knights & rooks you philistines!

I came second at my junior school in the last year, although I actually came third I got second place because the kid who finished above me was expelled just before we left the school!

I haven't played for a long time now though.

One of the few tactical games I can play and husband can't! My dad taught me, and we've taught my son. Not very good at it, but do enjoy it.

Chess is one of the best games ever invented in my opinion. I love a good game, but never get to play these days. I was also never any good...

Possibly one of the most complex games aswell , so many people just don't get it or can't pick it up , my old man taught me and i used to always play it .

Like i said was fairly good at school and did well in some district competition which landed me second in Dagenham and Redbridge which my Dad still has the Certificate for , bless him .

Shame i don't get much time to play no more but on plane to Thailand i was kicking teh computers asse 12 -0 at some point as was the only thing getting me through the flight seeing as the other option was Miami Vice the movie and we all know how pony that fim was !!!

Claim to fame: When I was a mere young apprentice I beat the champion of Seven Kings Railway maintenance shed who'd never been beaten.

I go through phases of playing it A LOT to not at all (but against a PC).

I feel a game coming on.........

Chess takes minutes to learn and a lifetime to master...

Love the game, though I don't get to play as much as I'd like these days.

Mental combat in its purest form. No lucky bounces, no excuses, the better man over the course of a match will win and you need the dignity required to accept when it isn't you.

I play at a decent club standard, though I specialise in blitz as my game is mostly built on tactics and attack rather than positional finesse. I've always held back from "studying" that side of the game because I enjoy it as it is, and it's a game that can do funny things to people who take it too seriously.

With all the online chess site maybe we could get a mini league going.
Anyone fancy it?

My Grandad taught me to play, he used to have one of those electronic sets where you'd play against the computer in the days before PCs and internet. When I was sorting out my stuff before emigrating I found my old chess set I had at the time. I was pretty ruthless chucking stuff out before the move but didn't have the heart with that, it's now in storage.

I haven't played in years but would like to think it's something I'll teach my kids.

when the other person isn't looking i move their pieces, guaranteed result everyy time.

I remember when I was a teenager I had arranged a trip to Alton Towers with a few friends, one of which was never on time for anything. To make sure he wasn't late (we had a very early start - we had to be up at 4.00am) I stayed over at his house the night before. At about 11.00 he asked me if I want a game of chess and I agreed. We finished somewhere between 2.30 and 3.00am! We weren't late, but we were knackered!

I guess that's a very long winded way of saying, i'd love to, if I could find the time, after all chess can go on a bit...

I also forgot to mention, my Dad was always pretty good too. In fact, his uncle was British Chess Champion sometime after WWII. When my dad was a boy he played his cousin (the Chess Champion's son) and beat him. Apparently my dad's uncle was none too pleased about that.

OK post names here if you are interested in playing in the SZ chess league next year. Ill try and find a site that is suitable and try and get something going. We could play each other on a sort of home and away basis and have an ongoing league table.

I'm in...... **quickly rushes off to practice! **

3 already. If this takes off we could be on Sky Chess Premier League.
We might have to leave the Aussie bloke out. Cant see anyone wanting to get up at stupid oclock to play a game of chess.
