Getting up early tomorrow for the 8am pitch inspection will be Mark Heywood from Northwich (not to be confused with the more experienced Mark Haywood from Wakefield). He is in his second season as a League referee and has refereed Southend twice before, both last season.

Firstly the home 2-1 win over Oxford with the yellows going 2-1 to us as well.

Secondly the 0-0 draw at Torquay towards the end of the season where they picked up 4 yellows to our one (Mohsni).

He has been given a number of Championship matches and his card count is a below average 38 yellows and 2 reds from 14 games.

He will be assisted by Mark Griffiths from Edenthorpe near Doncaster and Darren Handley from Bolton. Fourth official is Chris Akers from Armthorpe near Edenthorpe near Doncaster.
