The following is an extract from the Bury FC Retained list article. On the basis that a bid for Cian is now very unlikely, it will be interesting to see what the club do next. I want the bloke back and do a kiss and make up thing with Phil:

All loan players will return to their parent clubs following the final game of the season with Southend United, with our thanks and best wishes are extended to Ian Lawlor, John O’Sullivan, Cian Bolger, Chris Neal and Sean Clare. Our thanks are also extended to the following clubs for allowing us to be a part of their player’s development – Manchester City, Blackburn Rovers, Southend United, Port Vale and Sheffield Wednesday)

His attitude was shocking....hence brown gladly loaning him out, instead of waiting for an opportunity to play his way back in he was making demands etc. Brown was spot on with him. If he gets his head down and proves himself then all good

Yeah, I get that and going out on loan and not achieving a lot at Bury may just the kick up the arse he needs. We have been sadly lacking in height at the back and for that reason, providing he can play nicely then I would be happy with Barrett, Malarczyk, Thompson and Bolger as our centre backs. Brown and Cocky were defenders in their playing days, make our CBs ready for next season.

It's been mentioned to me that he may not be too well-liked by the rest of the squad, but that could also be duff information.

If Bolger comes back then I would expect him to tip up to pre-season training all bright eyed and bushy tailed. Bolger should act professionally in this matter - we all make mistakes in life etcetera.

Before that day I would expect Brown to have had a conversation with him that was about putting the past behind them and starting afresh. The club should act professionally in this matter.

Although I fully expect Bolger to be transfer listed in a couple of weeks time.

And I wouldn't allow Bolger to play for Bury on Saturday either.

He's not your typical "lad", which may make it a bit difficult for him to "mix in". He's a guy with his family in another country. He's another who has always been polite and genuine in dealings I've had with him - and patient when I've had to ask him to repeat things! When he won a POTM award last season, he went to a great deal of trouble to find out the details for the little local Irish charity, which has relevance to his family, for his donation for winning to go to.

He's unavailable for Sunday's game according to their manager.

I would love to see him back if mattes can be resolved. Personally thought as a young player he was showing good signs of further development. Strong in the air, pretty good with the ball at his feet, a definite goal threat in the opposition box, just needs better distribution and decision making at times. Next best to Barratt and one for the future, if we can get heads right, including Phils ego

Need him back or a better replacement. The only centre back we have who is decent in the air. We will be a shoe-in for most goals conceded frm set pieces next season if Barrett and Thompson are at the back.

Also interested to see as part of RHBs introduction to the thread, that Bury have already issued their retained list. As Phil and Ron have publicly stated we will be sorting the squad really early for a change , let's see if we follow suit in the next few days?

Really? I would have thought that the best way to make our CBs ready is to go get some new ones. Of these 4, I'd be happy enough with Barrett, and agree on your comment on Bolger. For me, Thompson is 5th choice when carrying 4 centre backs and Malarczyk I haven't seen, but when he couldn't get in ahead of Thompson when we spent most weeks letting in 4, maybe PB will be aiming a bit higher

Phil Brown has said that he is meeting 3 transfer targets today for talks. So the clear out should start soon.

Ooooh not sure about that. I'd be hoping for more defensive quality to arrive before August or we could be in trouble next season.

Move early PB, get a new squad embedded...look forward to a new season

I understand the "move early" ethos ........... but a good many players only become available once pre-season friendlies have started - a trickle down effect from clubs higher up the pyramid signing players (and letting others go) etcetera.

So, I think the "keep your options open" is also worth considering.

I would still be interested to hear exactly what Bolger said that led to him being sent to Bury. PB said he demanded to play - to be honest, I would rather that attitude from a player rather than "I'm happy to sit on the bench, thanks"!

Indeed - sometimes it's just the way you say it (tone of voice) or the words that you use or you get into an argument that you later regret ............ and you get better at avoiding that as you get older. Still, I would be very surprised if Bolger is not transfer listed in the next couple of weeks (or let go if his contract is to expire).
