"Col******r are giving a trial to experienced striker Alun Armstrong.

The 30-year-old is a free agent after being released by Darlington at the end of last season, so is not subject to the transfer window's restrictions.

Armstrong has made over 300 League appearances in spells with Stockport, Middlesbrough, Huddersfield, Ipswich, Bradford and Darlington.

Having trained with Oxford last week, he is set to play for the U's reserves against Milton Keynes on Wednesday."

Given our present striker shortage I would have thought that we might have expressed an interest if he was prepared to move down south. If we had it's hard to see on what grounds the player could have thought that Col Ewe were a better prospect.

EDIT: Oops, just noticed that this is covered in Shrimpers Chit-Chat - sorry!
