Echo News Comment: This is as bad as it's been for Southend United in 30 years

Well said Chris, just a shame you have to say it really, most of us know you are a committed and passionate Shrimper at heart.

Obviously Chris Phillips has to be careful with his comments as the Echo might be barred from the club so what this really needs is an investigation by a specialist journalist like David Conn of The Guardian who earlier this week wrote a piece about the goings on at Oldham. I am sure his expert delving into the labyrinthine structure of Martin's businesses would be highly illuminating.

Just had a look at that David Conn article about Oldham. Very interesting. Wealthy owners based overseas eh ? I prefer a locally based **** up myself.

Make that over 50 years Chris .....The belief in some that in league 2 our fortunes will suddenly change is not born out from the past .The only times we did it we had the majority of a settled team.
The silence from the chairman is deafening at present with the promises made in the Jan window but then the total dismantling of the squad instead.
The club must be on financial knife edge ,is Sol being deliberately targeted to try and get him to walk.
Into this mess comes falling gates and the possibility that season ticket renewal invitations will come with a points reduction and half a playing staff.
This is a total mess and the supporters deserve better than being ignored by the chairman and treated to what appears are lies.
Losing the enjoyment of watching the club you love takes some doing....but Ron you are achieving just that.

I know exactly how he feels. I've been a fan for 40 years and I never felt this down about the team even in 2010. I have a season ticket, but I've made grumbly noises about not wanting to trek up and down the train line to watch games for the rest of the season, but I know I'll be there.

Right now I'm mostly feeling an awful dread that - thanks to being away in Carlisle the other weekend - I've missed our only home win of the season.

That article is spot on be interesting how many fans renew there season cards for league 2 bearing in mind it could be another relegation battle let’s just hope in the summer we sign some players and turn this around let’s get them good times back

Not too long now before the Hagiographic, servile, Ron sycophants will appear on here to profess ever dying love for their God like hero

...and won a penalty after 21 seconds, off the bar and over the stand!!

When your at rock bottom ( like us ), nothing goes for you. Last night for example when we hit the post & it rolled along the line, then within a minute they score!.

Good word.

An hagiography is a writing about holy people. There are certainly plenty of holes in Ron's current strategy, not to mention his finances and as for his PR, it's positively non-existent.

The thing about this, is who to replace him?
Wanted; someone willing to cough up £16m for not a lot, and then invest a great deal more to reach the hallowed land of the Championship.
Orderly queues on the right, please...

Some of you need see a specialist of some sort. If you really were a supporter in the early early/mid 80's and claim now is worse. then you are in complete denial. You have buried a traumatic period in your life and by refusing to talk about it it may well come back to haunt you in later years.

I had an uncle who never spoke of his war time experiences, us kids knew not to mention the war. He would get up and switch the TV off even for Sunday afternoon war films....I guess some of you must do the same for certain seasons of SUFC 1980's DVDs.....

Like ww2 we won through in the end but then surrendered to uncle ron 30 odd years later.

Not sure I totally agree with Rigsby.
Yes, the football was dire and we flirted with the bottom of what is now League 2. yes, Anton Johnson was a crook, Vic Jobson was a horror, but at least they didn't asset-strip the infrastructure of club the way that Ron Martin has been allowed to do and although finances were precarious it was in an era where wages were much lower.
When RM bought the club it included Roots Hall, Boots & Laces etc, now the club has nothing as he's hived everything else off, put it in his own companies and mortgaged it, rents everything to the club at sky-high interest rates, charges outrageous 'consultancy fees' then claims he's 'invested his own money' which half the people on here actually believe. I fear this is only going to end one way.

The football structure is now entirely different to the eighties including the financial side of the game.....don't belittle the paying supporter who is the lifeblood of the club and the reason for its existence. They care about the club being on the knife edge of going under on and off the pitch....and this feels different
