am building a computer for my boy so that he can pretend that he is using it for homework.

Thinking of getting this, is this about right for modern specs?

ASUS M4A78LT-M LE AMD 760G Socket AM3 DVI VGA Out 8 CHannel Audio MATX Motherboard £53.93

AMD Athlon II X2 250 Socket AM3 3.0GHz 2MB L2 Cache Retail Box Processor £50.00

Kingston 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz/PC3-12800 HyperX Memory Kit CL9(9-9-9-27) £100.00

Samsung EcoGreen F2 1.5TB Hard Drive SATAII 5400rpm 32MB Cache - OEM 166989 £71.99

LG W2261VP 22" LCD Widescreen Full HD Gaming Monitor 1920 x 1080 250cd/m2 10,000:1 2ms VGA/DVI/HDMI Tilt 3yr Onsite Warranty - Glossy Black 168144 £134.88

I already have cables, case, PSU, and a Radeon 2400HD graphics card (that he won't use as he won't be watching porn on it.)

is this set up about right, and reasonable value? big lots of green for any help x

ps we will probably also use it for microsoft word, and backing up photos, hence the large hard drive.

Dont scrimp on the graphics card in he case wants to use it for gaming.

**** off, he's already got a ps3, xbox and wii!! he'll just want to buy all the same games again for a fourth time.

Since when did common sense apply to a boy?

Ill check with my youngest - now 20, and ask why he has PS3, 2 Xbox's, PC, Wii, Macbook and an Ipad on order.

my fear is him building a collection like that... it can easily happen!!

But at 71 quid its not too expensive and he wont need to change it to soon.

it's obviously a good spec computer! also from my experience making sure you spend time and money putting together a good self-build PC is worth the effort, as they last for ages. My PC is 8 years old, I have only upgraded the Graphics card and bought an external HD, it's absolutely superb and still pretty quick.

Just wondering how old he is and what his aspirations are, i.e. if he's going to uni he may want something more transportable like a XPC/Shuttle or something. Or if he is into music/graphics then maybe a Mac instead.

However for day-to-day and being future-proof it looks very nice.
