If what's being rumoured online regarding pubs and restaurants is true after the lockdown and we go back into tiers there's going to be no hospitality sector left.

So when does the lockdown end?

Gov.uk has always said 00.01 on Thursday 3rd.

However BoJo was quoted saying from Wednesday 2nd.

Still think it's the former and that he is having a bad hair day.

Oxford Astrazeneca vaccine is 70% effective.

I am not an expert here but that doesn't sound great.
When you consider the the Flu vac effectiveness I think that 70% is quite remarkable and that 70% figure is only for the first vac and not the booster. With the booster it increases to 90%

Plus there were different inclusion criterion for the three studies, so it’s a little apples and orange to compare them. 70-90% efficacy and able to be manufactured in the billions is probably preferable. Especially given that this will be cheaper by a factor of 7 or 8 times, and doesn’t require super cold storage/transportation.

Anything that will be easy for me in practice and to administer I am all for

No, I thought I'd seen it was 00.01 on 2nd December.

According to today's Echo the infection rate in Southend has doubled during this lock down. Bad news but unsurprising. Yesterday in Southchurch Park the Cafe was open supposedly for take away service only but people were sitting in the cafes outside seating area being served with chips, drinks etc. The area was full with people all seated in a confined space. All a bit concerning.
Shows the level of moronic idiots there are in the town.

Lockdown finished in Barna yesterday (for the time being)?

Pubs, shops and restaurants in Gracia seemed to be doing a roaring pre-xmas trade.Good.just hope it doesn't end in tears ora rise in infections in 3 week's time.

Or that lockdowns don't work?

The truth, as usual, is probably somewhere in between as there are clearly some idiots about
The lockdown has been pathetic. If the question was asked as to how many prosecutions have been started for flouting the lockdown the answer would be very low. Without a deterrent plonkers will always be plonkers.
Lots of the rules maybe nonsensical but if they are the rules then good folks will do their best and the others will do the minimum they can get away with.

Certainly milder than the first one (in the UK as well as herein Spain,I imagine). The UK Would appear to befollowing the European model for lockdowns ie based on an attempt to reduce the virus rather than eliminate it it entirely as in Asia.

Difficult to see what else could have been done in a western style democracy rather than a totalitarian state.

Will be interesting to see what happens if there's a increase in infecions over the Xmas period andbefore a vaccination becomes widely available from January.

Your space key playing up?

Read this report earlier this week that suggests lockdowns have worked.....

In the midst of a second wave, the UK locked down. Wales introduced a short and sharp 'firebreaker'. Northern Ireland pushed for a 'circuit breaker'. England put in place a month-long lockdown. And Scotland instituted a five-tiered system of restrictions to curb infections.

While each region implemented restrictions at different time periods, we now have enough data to see whether tighter restrictions worked. Infection rates levelling off in aggregate - but hot spots remain.

We make two observations when looking at the recent health data. First, infection rates seem to have levelled off across the country. This is good news. One, the number of new cases has peaked. UK Government data shows that the level of daily cases (7 day average) is nearly a fifth lower than its peak (figure 1). Two, the ONS' infection survey suggests that positivity rates have leveled off in England, while dropping noticeably across the rest of the UK (figure 2). The firebreaker and circuit-breaker in Wales and Northern Ireland, respectively, seem to have worked in lowering infections levels and bringing the positivity rate well below 1%. Three, and more importantly, the rate of transmission across the country has also fallen after having peaked at around 1.7. Currently, all four devolved regions in the UK have a transmission rate between 1.1 and 1.2 – a significant drop from just over a month ago (figure 3).

Second, while the rate of daily infections has slowed, there remain a number of COVID-19 hot spots. This is the not-so-good news. The aggregate picture masks a number of hot spots in the aggregate data. To be sure, some regions continue to see persistently high levels of infections with hospital capacity stretched in a number of localities. In England, looking at the detailed regional data from the ONS, we see the North West and Yorkshire & the Humber still exhibiting elevated positivity rates. In Scotland, Glasgow and its surrounding areas are also experiencing higher-thannormal levels of infections, relative to its surrounding areas. Lift-off? Bracing for restrictions post lockdown England will end its lockdown on 2 December. But a tiered localised restrictions system will be in place to curb infections. Indeed, Northern Ireland is already set to enter its second circuit breaker on Friday given still elevated hospitalisation levels. And, Scotland has only recently moved up several localities to its highest tier.
