Hi mate @seenyeva kryevyetka, just wondering if you had any follow up thoughts to these ones from June? Xx

My gut feeling (and I've a big gut) is that social distancing will have gone before September.

Ah, the fabled "Second Wave", eagerly anticipated by many to be worse than the Spanish Flu of 1919.

Well, in my job (which you might call as being in the "death industry") I have a bit of first hand experience of the effects of and measures taken to deal with the Wuhan Plague.

When all this started and people were going to be dropping like flies in the streets many, many temporary mortuaries were erected in the UK. a number being in Essex; in Basildon, Chelmsford and Upminster to name a few. Well, to date these have had ZERO occupants and are now being quietly dismantled. If the government really believes its own project fear about a far deadlier "Second Wave" just round the corner do you really think that they would be taking away the storage facilities?

I think it'll be all right.

Liverpool has been used for a while now as the “hotbed” and have been scapegoated to the high heavens. Saw a video on social media that went viral of a gym owner being forced to close his gym by armed police, despite the fact we know gyms are not a prominent spreader.

Liverpools business’s are being destroyed under the premise that ‘hospitaliazations are rising!’ and now we know that they are in fact lower than this time last year when Covid did not even ****ing exist.

Please xplain
Our daughter and her partner live in the Sandwell region of Birmingham and that region has extra local restrictions added to the level 2 nationally. When she saw that Southend was excluded from the Essex kamikazi event she felt obliged to offer up a 'humorous dig at her parents pointing out that we were 'safe as houses then'. That was the context but I thought the map worked in its own right on here.

So what happens if, as anticipated, severe cases arrive at hospital over the coming weeks and ICU is already at 95% capacity with a mixture of non-COVID/COVID patients? They only have a couple of dozen ICU beds, so a couple of severe cases arriving mean people need to be transferred (not always practical) or treated/ventilated in other wards (not ideal). Plus COVID cases have to be managed under strict infection control, which brings challenges and risks.

For understandable reasons, ICU's try to run at underoccupancy so they don't need to turn away critically ill patients. The fact that at the start of winter we're already seeing ICU's filling up and COVID is clearly contributing to this is a real worry.

Finally about the gym that was forced to shut - police warned the owner and he didn't comply with the order to close. Armed police seems overkill, but what else were they supposed to do. There isn't evidence that gyms 'are not a prominent spreader' (absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence) and the views of public health experts is that warm humid conditions with poor ventilation (such as many gyms) where people are doing exercise are relatively high risk for transmission. It's a political decision about if it makes sense to shut gyms, the evidence isn't conclusive and there are benefits behind keeping them open.

Gyms?
If the persons attending are in low risk age groups, good health, follow easy guidelines AND do not come into contact with high risk groups then there is an argument for the benefits of keeping them open and business in a solvency condition.
However, like too many things there is always a numpty or two who won't follow easy, basic, acceptable practices.
I would rather more attention was focused at the numpties than persons trying to make the best of things or some of the UK Government (who in many ways are trying to help).

My wife regularly goes to a local gym in SC (she was there yesterday). The 50% of the normal attendance rule is being observed apparentlyand she doen't report any numpties. She has to sign in online beforehand and always either /cycles walks to the gym (so doen't need to use the changing rooms).

Latest Govt Covid map this afternoon shows Rochford as ‘supressed’...yet last night on regional tv news an increase of 200pct in 2 weeks was claimed. Who or what to believe, eh?

Seems us Essex residents are expected to follow High Tier guidelines when visiting a Medium Tier region (like Southend).

If Gyms were spreading the 'virus' then people who go to the gym would be ill. If you haven't had one customer go down with it why the need to close.

Local gym or tube train?....Where are you more likely to catch something.

Gyms have mental health benefits as well as physical ones. I watched an interview yesterday with two gym owners in Liverpool and they said many of their customers are on suicide watch and during lockdown they were making daily calls. Makes you think.
