Coronavirus (Non-Politics)

BBC reported that policy at the moment in Spain where cause of death is coronavirus that the corpse is indeed left (‘abandoned’) until those with the right equipment can collect. I don’t know the full details of the tragedy you’re referring to but doubt it’s as cut and dried as you infer.

The reports in the British media were that the army had found one place completely deserted of all staff.

I know they wont deal with a deceased resident as they don't in normal times. I get that some staff may well desert their post but what about the people in charge. Would you not at least make phone calls to relatives or the appropriate people, like the undertakers/private ambulances that take the dead.

A friend of mine can't visit his mum in a local care home because they quite rightly have banned all outsiders. However if the staff ran off and left his mum on her own amongst dead residents.....The manager would have some serious questions to answer.

The death toll will rise and rise fast. Let’s hope and pray that the NHS can cope. Pretty soon we will all know/know of someone affected. Scary times.

This really is a nasty virus and unfortunately I have become a victim of it.
Mine started with a sore throat and then developed into what I thought was a cold and it wasn’t until the coughing started and running the high temperature that I put two and two together.
This virus is not just a fever or cough - I have had general aches and pains especially in joints, my sense of taste and smell has all but gone, constant headaches and feeling completely tired and fatigue. Even climbing the stairs has left me short of breath.
Having contacted 111 I was just told to isolate and go to hospital if I developed breathing difficulties. I asked for a test to determine and as a nurse I wanted to know so as to inform my colleagues and any of my patients but was told only if admitted to hospital will I get tested.
I have called by GP to inform so that I can be included on my records so that it can sent wherever to keep a track of numbers and was to,d they are not collecting that data.
How do they know how many have it or have had it if they are not taking any notes from people.
Please can I warn you this is no ordinary virus and it really does wipe you so please keep your 2m distance and maintain good hygiene.

Wishing you well Tinks.

Sorry to hear that, get well soon Tinks, we are all rooting for you.

Just a sobering thought for me on Covid 19 - Each day I read stories on the news, I listen to stats of folk dying around the world, read most of the Covid posts on here and I long since realised this crisis is very real and very big. And then it occured to me that I haven't once thought about anything to do with Southend Utd or football in general. So maybe Bill Shankley got it wrong this time round.

Specialist cancer care nurses are being taken off their roles and redeployed onto wards, okay to understand the immediacy of all this; but some very sick and worried people are going to get further worries over this: AND if those same nurses end up (as they will) treating preventable, no thinking/isolating macho covid infected persons then that is an awful thing.

Totally.
On Tuesday I had an operation to remove my prostate due to cancer.
Although I’m waiting for the all clear , it appears it was all contained without any spread so I’m very hopeful.
I’m 60 and sitting at home thinking how lucky I am that my operation went ahead as others are now being cancelled.
My surgeon said he did not know how long he would be allowed to continue these ops.
I’m actually having some feelings of guilt - like why me , if that makes sense ?
Everyone in need should be treated , but I would urge anyone not taking the isolation seriously, please think again , because this isn’t just about Coronavirus, it’s about residual illness and deaths as a result of surgeons being redeployed.

I have no evidence but surely there must have been less RTAs and drunks in A&E so maybe they are slightly under less pressure ?

I have a few friends who work for the NHS and they’ve said at Broomfield they’re getting less of the ‘sprains’ etc. The usual trivial **** that doesn’t really warrant A&E but they go anyway.

Without looking too far ahead , when this is all over or restrictions eased , there will be an initial ‘pub rush’ - a sort of VE Day celebration - probably like we’ve never seen before.

Sadly for our under pressure A&E staff , it will lead to an upsurge of the usual ‘anti social’ drunken behaviour that they always experience during World Cups etc - you know the thing , dick heads getting drunk and fighting etc

It’s inevitable I’m afraid, but just hope people at least act a bit more responsibly and give A&E a break !

Yes you could be right. At Leigh Elms, they had a 20 man brawl at the last closing time, with 2 arrested. I wonder if the opening night is going to be crazy at pubs.

I'd prefer the hospitals to close for the night so NHS staff can go and have a well earned drink.

Sorry, just thinking out loud.

Apparently 13 of the new deaths were ‘healthy’ adults. I don’t know how they could know that now without doing a post-mortem.
