I am mid 60's and reasonably intelligent but still cannot get my "head" around what is hitting us and the world !
The figures announced today I am struggling to comprehend and all the indications are that they will increase........
Stay safe fellow Shrimpers and look after your loved ones. Sorry to sound so serious as I am normally quite a lay back character, but this is such a very serious and scary situation.

All very true but to say they were healthy is a bit wrong because they could have underlying issues they didn’t know about.
Is the message here more of the "it could be you" and aimed at the remaining complacent "I'm fit and strong and hard" brigade?
No message will reach the stupid, other than a painful sharp smack or two.

The Professor who spoke at today's Gov update, said if we get under 20,000 deaths up to the 'peak', it would be a lot less than initially thought?.
So with 1,000 already victims to this virus, lets assume another 18,000 people succumb to it ( hopefully many less ).
And for arguments sake also assume 500 per day from tomorrow. That's another 36 days of terrifying statistics, which will take us to early May, before we find out if this estimate pans out.
If football ( what's that?, bottom of priorities now ) commences to finish off the season, imo wont restart till mid June?.

Specialist cancer care nurses are being taken off their roles and redeployed onto wards, okay to understand the immediacy of all this; but some very sick and worried people are going to get further worries over this: AND if those same nurses end up (as they will) treating preventable, no thinking/isolating macho covid infected persons then that is an awful thing.
Although i Agee i 100% agree with your sentiments- using your own words and logic, how many of those cancer patients are “preventable no thinking “ smokers?

The 21 year old that died the other day turned out to have had a heart attack almost immediately before she died, so that was likely the cause of death rather than coronavirus but the media was reporting she had no underlying health conditions because that's what her family said. Unfortunately some people just have potentially fatal health conditions they aren't aware of.

This really is a nasty virus and unfortunately I have become a victim of it.
Mine started with a sore throat and then developed into what I thought was a cold and it wasn’t until the coughing started and running the high temperature that I put two and two together.
This virus is not just a fever or cough - I have had general aches and pains especially in joints, my sense of taste and smell has all but gone, constant headaches and feeling completely tired and fatigue. Even climbing the stairs has left me short of breath.
Having contacted 111 I was just told to isolate and go to hospital if I developed breathing difficulties. I asked for a test to determine and as a nurse I wanted to know so as to inform my colleagues and any of my patients but was told only if admitted to hospital will I get tested.
I have called by GP to inform so that I can be included on my records so that it can sent wherever to keep a track of numbers and was to,d they are not collecting that data.
How do they know how many have it or have had it if they are not taking any notes from people.
Please can I warn you this is no ordinary virus and it really does wipe you so please keep your 2m distance and maintain good hygiene.

There is an app developed by some hospitals and universities where you can enter symptons and they will try and track the numbers and identify new outbreaks. Details on BBC website https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-52033210

EDIT - the app is for everyone - healthy or with symptoms - idea is to track daily so they can monitor spread. Govt is not carrying out enough tests so we have no idea of the true extent. This app will help

COVID-19 has been found, in published reports, to cause mycardial infarction (heart attack), as well as multi-organ failure, respiratory failure, shock, etc. Whether you want to put the cause of death as COVID-19, or something else, it doesn't get away from the fact that the excess mortality from this virus is on a shocking scale, and 20% of victims to date are health care professionals. The failure of the government to appropriately plan for and care for our NHS staff is a national scandal.

I'd prefer the hospitals to close for the night so NHS staff can go and have a well earned drink.

Sorry, just thinking out loud.

Fully agree and would love that to happen , but rightly or wrongly they will roll up their sleeves and be there in an A&E to patch up the aggressive dick heads who had too much to drink and took offence at someone - sadly my wife has seen it at every football tournament - idiots abusing A&E staff and screaming about waiting times because their mates black eye is really hurting ......

It wouldn't be as we are it would be with some restrictions.
I would imagine the next logical step would be to remove outside exercise. Essential foodshopping and medical visits to chemists hospital will remain in operation. It all depends whether the current social distancing is working or not.

That would be unworkable unless we had the army deployed and even then it would have to be certain area's only.

Maybe but we are starting to run out of voluntary options and social distancing is still being ignored at times. If it's unworkable then it's a good job I'm not a politician.

As far as I can tell the social distancing is being adhered to very well in the circumstances.

Of course what makes it all completely pointless is the fact we're all still expected to go to work and commute if we can't work from home. That removes all the gained benefits of staying indoors for everything else
