Coronavirus (Non-Politics)

watch the politicians now .... here are some facts

NHS frontline staff - i.e. those handling COVID19 patients

::- do not have adequate PPE

:: - are not being tested

I am talking about the Nurses and Doctors in a major London hospiatl carrying out procedures on Covid19 patients in aprons and flimsy disposable mouth masks and builders goggles ..

The aprons do protect the arms - which are in contact wih the patients and the beds etc

the masks are supposed to come off every hour (hahahaha)

And the goggles are uncomfortable and not always worn...

They are not in those lovely space age suits or behind those full face screens .. they are wearing crap aprons over their uniforms.. ... crap amsks and no eye protection except what they improvise.

AND when you start blowing up they are not impressed because they go in the next day to get on with it ...

10 minutes with one these plonkers on the telly - just 10 minutes

yeah ... the unspoken rule ... now is not the time .

just finished

Just watched the Shama Buisness Secretary press conference, he read every word of a very insincere statement prepared by a PR specialist. Also the answers given to each question were "stock" off the shelf answers. How do they get away with this? I also watched yesterday the Mayor of New York's press conference which was in stark contrast as he spoke quite openly, unrehearsed and not to a pre - written script. He also spoke to the people at the people's level. What a contrast !
Why do our government just not say we have never experienced anything like this before and we are trying our best, instead of trying to bull .... us all?

The whole testing thing is a bit confusing to me , if a person test negative today that doesn’t mean they ain’t gonna test positive tomorrow, so do you test everyone every day until they get a positive result ?

if there was widespread testing then those who test positive are isolated and eventually you’d run out of people to catch it from.

Most care homes that I know of in Benfleet have deliveries of food from Brake Brothers and other similar suppliers, or use Costco or Makro, I find it surprising that this one seems to be suffering in this way?

Most of the homes that I look after have accounts with either Asda or Tesco and are having the same issues.
Morrisons have been really good in allowing extra shopping for these homes

Mostly agree however, there are thousands of NHS staff currently self isolating who could be safely back at work if they knew they were virus free. The test to see if you’ve had the virus will be the game changer.
Just a quickie about wearing masks, pointless unless you’re treating an infected person or you’re infected yourself.
Got that years ago from a mate, now running a laboratory in Singapore, who knows his onions, and I mean seriously knows his onions.

All i've got are some standard dust masks, i found in the cupboard. As i'm doing the weekly shop tomorrow, worth wearing one or not?.

After testing, they've now realised that the human breath and cough carries a bit further than previously recorded. Strange I know, but that's what an expert said this morning on the TV. So he said you should wear any mask, as it's better than nothing. But then another expert said there's not enough to go around, and first we need all the frontline workers to get them. But I thought the frontline workers were getting the more advanced and better masks.
All rather conflicting and confusing as usual. We've gone from, you don't need to wear a mask, to, maybe you should wear a mask, as it's better than nothing. No doubt in a couple of weeks we will be told to don't go out without a mask.

It's important to do testing for COVID-19 to know if someone has the infection so they can be as effectively treated as possible, and also to track cases and changes in the epidemiology of the infection so we can take public health measures to reduce its effect.

An important area of development is antibody tests.

Antibody testing can show if a person has had COVID-19 and recovered, and therefore has a degree of immunity to a future infection. It's important to know who these people are so they can go back to work (in particular if they're in health care). However, there is a lot of uncertainty around this.

This diagram is helpful if you're following the testing research that's coming out in the news

WHO now reassessing their advise on wearing masks while out. I say if it makes you feel better then wear one. Gloves should be a given while at the supermarket though.
If you do wear a mask then take care to avoid touching your face to adjust it, and continue to maintain good hygiene (frequent hand washing, social distancing etc.). A mask alone won't protect you from infection (or transmission)

That's what I was saying yesterday, but it seems that the WHO are going to conduct more tests to see if their advice needs to change.

As an aside, I've also seen people take them off and hang them under their chin whilst they talk to people! So, they touch their face to take them off when they're probably most needed, and then touch their face again to put them back on!
