This is something I do every year, only for the first two days, but something I am proud to be involved in and see first hand the amazing work that is being done, VERY CLOSE TO HOME.

Urgent appeal for volunteers

Dear friend,

We have over 7000 volunteers signed up for Crisis Christmas. This is fabulous news and we are really grateful to everyone who has committed their time to us over the Christmas period. We still urgently need more volunteers in order to open our centres safely and provide a warm welcome to our guests from the 23rd - 30th of December.

As a previous Crisis Christmas volunteer we would love for you to join us again this year. If you can’t volunteer at Crisis Christmas this year we’d be really grateful if you could help us by spreading the word amongst friends, family and colleagues who may be able to help us out.

We need:
Night owls- volunteers for night shifts are urgently needed in all of our centres- in particular we need female volunteers to sign up to nights shifts in our Women’s Centre in West London
Residential Centres- volunteers are needed in our Dependency Centre (Battersea), Quiet Centre (Islington), Women’s Centre (West London) and Rough Sleeper’s Centre (East London)
Stratford- volunteers for afternoon shifts are needed at our day centre in Stratford
Opticians, befrienders and massage specialists- volunteers with specialist skills are urgently needed to help deliver vital services

Sign up to volunteer here - https://community.crisis.org.uk//pa...org.uk/cc2009/&srcid=5510&srctid=1&erid=94151

Please do not respond to this e-mail before visiting our website as we are struggling to meet the demand in this busy period before the centres open.

For those of you into social networking, please consider putting out a Facebook appeal or following Crisis on twitter at twitter.com/crisis_uk

Many thanks for your support,

The Volunteering Team

PS- I'll be on Learning and Skills team at East London, rough sleepers centre on 23rd and 24th. Come and say hello!

Are not allot of these homeless people homeless though choice though?

I am absolutely certain that a large number of people decided one day that spending a freezing christmas night under a bridge in a cardboard box was the way to seek spiritual enlightenment and strive for a better life.

Very very few 'want' to be in this position.
There are many ex-service men who end up in all kind of situations that lead to them losing their families and homes then get stuck in a spiral of maybe drink, drugs or gambling.
Like wise there are lots of other individuals who equally end up in similar situations.
Many of us are lucky to have good family and friends around us to look after us.
There are also some eastern Europeans who are not liked by the others. They often have very sad stories, finding themselves here on the promise of free jobs, money etc which turns out to be false.
There are some elderly people.
So so many sad stories of proud hardworking people who end up in difficult situations.
Most are in a cycle of can't get a job as have no fixed address, can't get an address as have no job.
My reply hasn't done this justice as on my phone. Hopefully there may be some others on here who have some understanding of the complex issue of homelessness

Maybe not.

Never mind, hopefully this may not have fallen on all deaf ears.
Got an email to say that several volunteers were dropping out at this late stage and so they are more desperate than ever. 2 days minimum is all they usually ask for - but realisitically if you can do one thats better than none!

Worthy cause my friend but I have trouble looking after myself let alone anywhere else! now if you have a link for donations I would be up for that
