Journalists and the pessimistic England nation have had their field days in the lead up to this match since the final whistle against Algeria.
The England players and manager have had a chance to balls up their interviews and create more attention and build negativity around the team. Rumours of rifts, every reason under the sun given for poor performances thus far, attention to Wags arriving - the same reporters who declared it was a good move for them to stay at home are now saying it is a good idea to have them in South Africa.
A nation full of hope, England flags on all windows, a sparse train on the way to work this morning as the nation sits and waits for the big one, a must win game but can England stand tall and finally conquer a team below them in the World Rankings and show some togetherness? Or will we see a performance as Heroic as Falla against Federer but with Slovenia able to hold onto a draw/win. At 13/2 for a Slovenia win and 16/5 for a draw I don't blame any English punter putting their money there. It certainly seems sensible.
But, with the chips down will England use everything in their power to produce the performance of the World Cup and ease to victory I certainly hope so but I don't expect so. Does it make it any easier that France have gone out, Germany need a result and Italy could only manage a draw against New Zealand? NO, no it doesn't because with England comes an expectation and a hope and inner belief, no matter how long you have to search for it, that is there bringing the most amount of optimism that England will bring the World Cup home for the first time since 66 when Moore and Co. did the nation proud.
This is no time for excuses! Those 11 players, the manager and coaches, the subs, the chef and his dog have to take responsibility on what they should be treating as the biggest day in their playing careers.
Live by the Sword, Die by the Sword!
Come on England!
