Man in charge of tomorrow's difficult encounter (Mr Sturrock's words, not mine) is scheduled to be rookie first year referee Lee Collins from Surrey. He is being fast tracked through the system and has risen to the level of League referee remarkably quickly.

Or will it be ? He limped off half way through a game at Yeovil nearly 4 weeks ago and hasn't done a match since. His appointment last week at Bournemouth was taken by Dave Phillips, fresh from his redcardfest at Oxford.

If it is Lee Collins, it will be his 10th match as a League referee. The previous 9 have accrued 26 yellow cards (average) and 5 red cards (way above average).

Assistants will be John Farries from Oxford and Richard Kendall from Luton, The fourth official is John Magill, a short, bald man from Colchester (so he really hasn't got much going for him at all).

Oh yes, and a sneak preview. Tuesday's Cup replay will be controlled by the dead hand of dead-eyed Darren Deadman.

5 Reds in 9 games??? That is just bonkers. :headbang:

Was there one game with a mass of cards accounting for 3 or 4 of those reds??

Sod it. What have we done to deserve him twice in the space of a month or so :gun:

It's always good to look for the silver lining .............

If we are going to have a card-happy referee then I think this would be an ideal game.

A card-happy referee may result in a few yellow cards detering close marking and create more space for players and given that we (Southend) are full of confidence and, according to the league table, a more talented and capable team, that could bode well ..........

There is some logic in there somewhere ..........
