Supporting SUFC
Our hospitality guest today is a gentlemen who has been a Shrimper for nearly 70 years, following his daughter Tammy’s please for help on Facebook.
Kenneth Waller’s first game was at the newly built Roots Hall on 28th January 1956 against Manchester City in the 4th round of the FA Cup. He remembers that it had rained solid for the preceding 2 weeks, there was not a blade of grass on the pitch and it was like a mud bath. Unfortunately Southend United lost (0-1) however Kenneth fell in love with the club and has supported them ever since, through good times and bad, watching every Friday night game from the North stand.
Now aged 87, Kenneth has become carer for his wife of 67 years and has battled prostate cancer himself, so has been unable to attend Roots Hall, however he still buys a new kit every season and listens to every game on his radio.
We are delighted to have been able to offer Kenneth and his family an executive box for the afternoon so he can see the team he loves play again.
