Should Michael Timlin have attempted to play his way out of trouble or hoofed it clear?

I see where your going here Yorkie...

For me he should of hoofed it. There is a time and a place for passing football and it aint 20 yards from your own goal, in a central position, with 4 minutes to go.

There's a time for pretty football and a time for a hoof. This was hoof time ,as the man said they cant score from row z

Of course he should have hoofed it especially with 3 minutes left on the ****in clock. I don't care if we should have lost 8-1 the point is they didn't put the ball in the back of the net until he goofed up in his own box.

Think this is a bit of a no-brainer to be honest, especially with the benefit of hindsight. You hoof it every time in that position.

Of course it is.

But Yorkie is using this to try and prove a point...

:net:

Well it certainly was a bad pass and possibly in the wrong area and at the wrong time in the match but Lampard's that cost Chelsea a goal on Saturday looked just as shoddy.
If Timlin had hoofed it and the ball came straight back in seconds latter resulting in a goal that would have been partially his fault as well. There were lots of groans and moans near me in the West Stand when the ball was hoofed away on other occasions in the match..
On other threads regarding the match folk are moaning that we play too much hoof ball so you can not please all the people unless you are winning and playing exciting football it seems.

:winking:

The question could be asked like this.
With the benefit of hindsight should a player of hoofed the ball in any game played this season into row Z just before the other team scored a goal. Because if we had done that then we may not have conceeded a single goal this year.

Or another question. If we played a bit more football and outplayed our opposition would we need to be worrying about humping or not with a few minutes to play . YES or NO,

Yes but there is a time and place to play football which is not in your own area with 3 minutes left whilst your 1-0 up!. Plus we were getting absolutely murdered at the time so just get rid of the thing every time row Z.

Can you let our boys know when the time and the place is please....

The vote is currently 11-3 you 11 can start humping it now..make it safe.

No he shouldn't have just "hoofed" it. He had time on the ball and should have used that to our advantage. He just made an arse of himself by giving the ball away trying to do the right thing

Good job Bobby Moore didn't take your advice in a certain game then...

But the only difference between that pass and a "hoof" was that someone got on the other end of it , and IIRC , from his autobiography, Hurst's main objective at the time was to belt the ball as hard as he could just to waste time, he was as surprised as anyone that it went in (and he was expecting Moore to put the thing in the car park in the first place)

Tough one... for me this is when we usually hoof the ball anyway and contributes to the hoofball everyone clearly hates.

Typical know-it-all Southend fans, using hindsight to criticise a player for not playing the ball in a style they spent 90 minutes on Saturday criticising the team for.

You're damned if you do, and you're damned if you don't.
