Dan Bentley is a 22 year goalkeeper for Southend United, who is breaking records on and off the pitch. In the past session he has achieved 21 clean sheets in all competitions and broke a 30 year old club record by keeping 13 clean sheets in a row at home.
He has performed 22 community visits, including actively participating in Southend’s Extra Time initiative that embedding numeracy and literacy into football related tasks for young people.
For the third consecutive season, Dan has been voted Southend Community Player of the year for his outstanding support of Southend United Community and Educational Trust. Speaking of his work in the community Dan has said:
“I recognise my role within society and the responsibilities that come with this. Effecting at least one child in a positive way, is time well spent in my eyes”

Lets just hope that the judges of this award can see beyond the multi - millionaire donations and look at the honesty and integrity behind Dan's work (not that any of the others are not acting with honesty and integrity either). What I am getting at is that Dan is 22, and in relative terms has yet to hit the big time, yet he is looking to influence the youngsters who do look up to him. He undoubtedly has a huge career ahead of him, so he could be focusing solely on that, and no one would expect anything else from him. Instead he is giving his time and effort to helping others. Dan isn't n the financial position of the other nominees, so in monetary terms he can't compete. In integrity though, it is beyond question. Good luck Dan
