The wally... he'd have been better off at Roots Hall...

Good luck to him. He'll need it if he's playing there.

But... but... but...

I accept that I'm in a minority of about 3 when it comes to David Lee. I merely ask this question: how many midfielders have we had who scored 10 goals from midfield in one season, finishing joint top-scorer in the process; and whilst often being played out of position...?

Ithankyou.

He didn't score 10 goals from midfield.

He scored 6 or 7. The others he was played as a forward.

Disagree... he was never played further forward than a Paul Scholes-like "in the hole" player.

Proud Shrimper... lighten up mate. 'Tis a harmless bit of fun about a player who had one damn good season with us, and about whom I shall always wistfully wonder what he might have made of himself (and us) had he stayed.

He's not coming back, is he... he wouldn't get into this side at the moment, which says a lot for the current quality of our playing staff.

Yeah he managed a reasonable goalscoring return but TBH I never really rated him that highly at all. Nowhere near good enough for us now, he was forever whinging and some of the things he said about the club and its supporters in the local press on his departure further alienated him for me.

I bet he wishes he'd stayed put now!!

Southend or Kidderminster... hmm, not a tough choice for this season, at least...

I thought he was the mutt's nuts as a player (his goal against Brighton remains one of my favourite moments as a Shrimpers supporter) - but then no two people have the same views about a player.

I usually agree with Matt's views on players, but not here. I for one certain didn't shed a tear when David Lee went on his merry way from the Hall for the last time. He was a decent player who thought that he was a brilliant player but he never did anything to justify it. Yes, he scored a few goals from midfield, which not many of our midfielders have done over the years but his all-round play was never anything to really write home about and his attitude stank.

If he'd re-joined us this season when he was down here training then I'd have given him a chance and I'd have hoped that he would have proven me, and the many others who doubted him, wrong. But that hasn't happened and I can't say I'm too unhappy about that.

***OFFICAL ANOUNCEMENT FROM DaLAS***

As I am offical press officer of DaLAS I feel it important to point out that we have spoken to David about a return to roots hall after lengthy negotiations we felt it better for a player of Davids class, skill, crossing, mentality, attitude, creativity, pace, passing, set play, shooting, direct play, long ball, and general overall all round compleet stupendus QUALITY should be given a chance to help a club like Kiddy rise up from the lower half!
Also to this DaLAS will be taking 24.8% of the signing on fee recived by David as his agents and 13.2% of his weekly wage
Thank you for you time

I think you're wrong Matt - he definitely played up front during his one season. It was the same year Webby mixed it up a bit and tried all sorts of combinations, one of which was the twig-like Lee playing alongside Carruthers.

Did you see many games that year? He was more often than not absolutely pony. Lee looked lright on paper but the reality were corners that missed the pitch altogether, no tracking back, poor tackling and a number of tapped in goals. His record since leaving us seems to support my worst memories!

Good to know somebody else was watching the same games as me!

In fairness, I remember that debut goal well. Thing is, I then spent the rest of the year waiting for that match winning player to turn up only to be disappointed. It was like having a fantastic first date with Ally McBeal....only for Ian Beale to turn up for the next 40.

Quality!

Even as the founding member of DaLAS, I must admit that even I saw him as the classic "luxury" player: he made a winning side look even better; and he went completely missing when the side was struggling. His work-rate and tracking back were, as I recall, very poor indeed... but then I was hoping for a Maher-esque transformation from the lad, a moment in which he realised that swanning around, being an ex-Spurs trainee simply wasn't enough; and that he would only succeed through busting a gut.

Alas, it appears to be something he has yet to learn... hey ho.
