Echo News David Martin in awe of Southend United's fighting spirit

Wasn’t sure about Dave at the start, but he has put in a few good performances since then. I guess not playing competitively for a long time meant a lot of rust.

Hopefully we can get out of the embargo before Colin is fully fit and they can fight it out for the first team spot.

Is interesting wording as if Big Col is fit then it’s not Kev’s decision as league rules dictate that he has to play. So wait and see I guess…
Another example of the NL not giving a f * * k about player welfare - players coming back from long term injury, with no warm-up / reserve games under their belt - being thrown straight back into league action.

No amount of training sessions, pre-match warm ups etc. can replicate a real match situation so no wonder injuries occur.

True, but how does Collin get game time otherwise. Maybe you have to pick the time and opposition for his return, but if he is our number 1 keeper then he has to play...........unless he picked up a bad splinter in his finger during training which will need 1/2 weeks to recover.
