One month ago, David Moyes slates Manchester City for their pursuit of Joleon Lescott claiming, "Real Madrid did their business early buying Ronaldo at the end of last season giving Manchester United time to find replacements. Manchester City have not given us time to find a replacement and it's not the way to do business."

Today, David Moyes signs Johnny Heitinga 30 minutes before the transfer deadline. Wonder who Atletico Madrid will find to replace him in the next half an hour?

To be fair, what did you expect him to do. Just not even try for a replacement. If Atletico Madrid didn't want to sell then they would have rejected it. They are in the Champions League and Everton are not so I would not think that it was like the Lescott saga where he wanted to leave, but then I don't know all the facts.

To be fair to Manchester City, they have been tracking Lescott all summer and Everton could have sold him earlier to give themselves more chance to bring in replacements for him.

Its not as if Man City turned up last week and said we want Lescott is it.

No, but City were persistent in their pursuit of Lescott despite Everton making it quite clear he was not for sale. In the end, it was Lescott's behaviour that forced the clubs hand into selling him and looking for replacements.

Madrid obviously didn't hold Heitinga in that high esteem, otherwise they wouldn't have sold him for £6m without a replacement.

Fair point, but with the money City are throwing around, Lescott was always going to go there and Everton have done very well to rake in around £24m from the deal.

Everton should have had players lined up to replace him when he went.

But it's David Moyes, he deserves it :p

£24 million is ridiculous for Lescott Everton did well to hold out for that much, he's barely worth half that amount of money. On a similar note £12 mill for Michael Turner WTF?

I think Everton did quite well out of it. £24m for Lescott, making him the world's 3rd most expensive defender (and he sure aint the world's 3rd best). Distin, who's not much worse, as his replacement for £5m and Heitinga for 6.

Lots of English centre backs moving in the transfer window. Why have Sunderland sold their captain and twice player of the year go to Stoke, and what's the fuss over Michael Turner? Defoe destroyed him the other week.

That's ridiculous money for someone who's had one average season in the Premiership.
